Tip of the Week: Got Bugs!? Now is the time of season that you are seeing bugs such as Japanese Beatles, Gypsy Moths and Emerald Ash Borers. These insects can cause stress or even death to trees and ornamental plantings. Preventative treatments in the spring or fall are always more beneficial but its never too late to treat plants to prevent or stop damage from occurring. Applying a topical foliage spray or a root drench are strategies to help "vaccinate" your plants. Visit your local home improvement store to find the right product for your situation or please contact me to for advice or assistance.

Tip of the Week: Trim and freshen your plant beds. Now is a great time to trim the new growth from your ornamental plants. Make the vibrant colors of your ornamental plants stand out by installing fresh new mulch in your plant beds. Edge the border of beds to keep that crisp defined line. Stay on top of the w**ds by pulling or spraying the invasive growth! Please call or message me with any questions or if you would like us to help!

Tip of the Week: Treating ornamental plants requires timing and now is the time to treat your trees and bushes to prevent disease and insect damage. Crab apple trees are susceptible to apple scab. Use a product that will address disease/fungi and insects and follow the label directions. Typically, spraying the leaves and ground will prevent damage. If you need assistance, please contact me! -Dave, Highland Lawn Care

Tip of the Week: Cut your grass short! To promote hearty deep green Blue Grass to grow, cut your grass short this spring. Cutting your grass short will allow the warm season Blue Grass to receive sunlight and warmth and eliminate the competition from the less desirable varieties of grasses. I cut my grass at 1.5" for two to three weeks until the temperatures are in the 60's & 70's.

Tip of the Week: Are you looking to freshen up you plant beds this spring? Choosing the right color for you plant beds can be difficult. Take into consideration the color of your home, the type and color of plants in your plant beds and the longevity of the color of mulch that you choose. A key question to ask is "what color will the mulch be after a few months." Many mulches will turn grey, white or fade over time. So be well informed so you won't be disappointed in your choice. Please feel welcome to contact me with any questions.
