The biggest tree at the nursery isn’t always the smartest buy. 🌳

A larger tree gives you an immediate impact, but it also costs more to purchase, transport, and install. A smaller tree may be easier to establish, and with some patience, it can grow into the space you planned for.

The best time to line up snow removal isn’t when the first storm appears in your forecast.

October landscape tip: Give late-season w**ds some attention in both your lawn and planting beds. Fall cutting back in planting beds can be done any time from now until the snow flies.

What about the leaves in your beds? You don’t have to rush to remove every one. A layer of fall leaves can insulate plants and provide shelter for beneficial insects and other small animals through winter. Leaves can also harbor w**d seeds and unwanted insects, so the right approach depends on the bed and how you maintain it.

A thoughtful fall routine doesn’t have to mean stripping every bed bare. 🍂

Mulch or rock? It’s more than a style choice.

Mulch works well when you want perennials and ground covers to fill in over time. It does need regular attention, including a spring check and occasional refresh.

Rock can mean less refreshing, but the stone holds and reflects heat. That affects which plants will thrive there. Leaves, w**ds, and shifting stone still need attention, too.
