Straight as a string—that’s the only way a ridge line should look when a roof replacement is done right.

Every single course of these architectural shingles is perfectly lined up, and that ridge cap runs dead straight from end to end. In my 35 years of roofing around Hastings, I’ve learned that taking that extra bit of time during the install makes all the difference in how a roof holds up against our unpredictable weather. West Michigan has been taking a beating from these recent storms, and we’ve got high winds and heavy rain rolling into Hastings and Barry County again tonight. When a roof gets too old, those storms will find every single weak spot.

We recently did a full tear-off on a local A-frame cabin, and once we got the old shingles off, we found dark spots scattered all across the OSB wood decking. Those dark spots are small leaks. Homeowners usually don't notice them from the ground until the wood starts rotting and the ceiling starts sagging. We got all that decking cleaned up and laid down a brand-new, secure roof before the next round of weather hit.

If your shingles are getting up there in age, don't wait for a major leak to tell you there's a problem.

Raised them, fed them, taught them everything they know — and now they're on my roofs. Worth every bit of it.

Both boys up there rolling out underlayment on fresh decking after a full tear-off. This is the part of the job that makes or breaks a roof — and I trust these two to do it right because I trained them myself.

Family-owned means something when it's actually your family doing the work.

Full tear-off day — old shingles off, decking exposed, and we find out what's actually been hiding up there. Sometimes it's fine. Sometimes it's not. Either way, we tell you the truth before anything new goes on.

That's one of my sons up there laying down underlayment on a recent roof replacement here in West Michigan.

This is the layer most homeowners never see — but it's one of the most important parts of a solid roof. We tear it off, check the decking, and build it back up the right way.

Under these shingles is proper flashing and waterproofing helping protect this home from future leaks.

That’s why we spend extra time making sure transitions like this are flashed correctly and protected with ice and water shield underneath.

A roof shouldn’t just look good when we leave.
It should stay dry through heavy rain, snow, and West Michigan winters. 🏠

A roof can look good from the ground and still leak if the flashing isn’t done right.

This roof transition needed proper ice and water shield up the wall along with custom flashing to keep water out where these sections meet. These are the spots we see fail all the time when corners get cut.

Anybody can nail shingles on.
The details are what keep a roof dry for years.

One thing we take pride in: keeping the job clean and the property protected the whole way through. Not just at the end when we’re picking up.

Homeowners notice that stuff. And it matters.

We’ve been doing this a long time around West Michigan, and we still treat every job the same way = do it right, don’t cut corners.

Do it clean, do it right, and you don’t have problems later.
