3:15PM EDIT:
Per NCDOT: Good news! The rainwater has receded and we are REOPENING NC12 between Oregon Inlet and Rodanthe as of 3:15 p.m.! Thank you for your patience. Keep in mind, there will still be some standing water on the roadway, so PLEASE SLOW DOWN and drive with extreme caution!
🚨Midgett Realty update for on-island and incoming guests:
NC 12 is currently closed due to heavy rainfall and freshwater flooding. This closure is not related to ocean overwash or ocean flooding.
The closure is only affecting access to Hatteras Island through Pea Island. Once on Hatteras Island, NC 12 remains open and passable from Rodanthe to Hatteras Village. Please use caution while driving, as there is standing water on portions of the roadway.
Before traveling, please monitor the official resources below for the latest road conditions, weather information, and reopening updates.
