SUN OR SHADE? Garden Pond Location. Garden pond supply and installation companies often tell customers that a pond must be placed in the sun. Why is that? The reality is that a pond in the sun is going to be prone to algae, requiring more chemicals and service. Once again, it comes down to what's more profitable for them. I have built many water features in the shade and can guarantee you will never have algae. The downside is that you will not be able to grow sun loving plants like water lily. Although a sun pond will be subject to string algae it can be easily controlled by the use of plants and the tannic acid provided by the addition of a decorative stump or drift wood. ponddude.net

Go to any pond supply site and they tell you all the filters you will need to buy. There's the biofalls, the inline filter, the skmmer unit and the ridiculous fraud, the "UV filter." UV is radiation--there is no mechanical filter that can remove radiation. It's an expensive bold-faced lie. Now, scroll to the last page or two of these sites and it lists all the chemicals you need to keep your pond clean--huh? With all those filters you just purchased you shouldn't need any chemicals. You should be able to drink that water! The bottom line is filters don't work. They're intended only to increase profits. What keeps a pond clean is volume of water pumped, plant material and the addition of an old stump or drift wood to provide tannic acid. God is a great landscape architect and the more natural the pond is built, the more self-sustaining it's going to be. That's the Pond Dude method. Well folks I'm back! I've come out of retirement specializing in water features and Garden ponds only. I've changed the name of the page it's still me everyone! The Pond Dude! I've left all the posts of my landscaping years because people really enjoy them. With God's blessings I'll be successful.
