My friend and mentor BobbyPowell Sr owner of Alcon construction past away a week ago, the man was a honorably hardworking businessman that knew construction like no other he built most of Gainesville and every where on the UF campus if it was masonry and concrete
I loved the old man like a dad he taught me stuff my own parents didn’t always had time to talk to me answered my phone calls
Always went out of he way to talk to my kids when I came by his office even when they were just babies always sponsored their FFA projects and he knew livestock and would put them through his questions
And if they didn’t know it he would break it down for them to understand
Tonight I went by his grave as to say thanks for the lessons he gave me and the hard lessons too as I worked for him till I was thirty years old and he encouraged me to go to school to get licensed in building construction and I did , first jobs I was getting was ones he would send my way
As I was just starting out on my own he once said to me maurice you can ether make a profit or a living when he found out how much I was charging to place field stone , his last words of the conversation was : if you just want to make a living then get your tools and get in my truck,But I choose to make a profit.
His passing is the end of a error there is no more men left of his mental capacity of construction and that was raised in Gainesville he graduated from GHS 1963
My mom and him were friends high school and he even helped me carry her coffin to her grave in 05 showed up in concrete boots and changed at cemetery he did but he came that’s the mark he left on me after that I would stop at least twice a month by his office to just say hi and tell him how me and my kids were doing or just a phone call to ask him a question on a job , can’t describe the feeling knowing there want be no-more phone calls or visits with him
I know god has a special place for Bobby and his dog jolene they are together now
And I was blessed to have such a mentor and friend as Bobby ,Rip my friend you have reached your retirement finally as you told me you would have plenty of time to rest one day in the cemetery for retirement.

Today I built the leads on a stem wall and it was hot as hell 94° 70+ humidity ! its hot time in Florida
