Master bedroom and bathroom remodel in Hayden. Right now it’s bare framing, relocating plumbing and electrical everywhere… but this is where it starts. What looks like a mess today becomes the finished space SP Custom Interiors has envisioned for us. Big thanks to Shelli for the design work and to Evergreen Plumbing Solutions for making the new plumbing tie into the existing system cleanly and professionally.

The first steps of building or remodeling your home shouldn't start with digging for a foundation or swinging a hammer....

Truth is there is a huge amount of work that should happen long before that.

And if it’s not done right, your “dream project” can turn into a nightmare fast.

Here’s what should go on before any real work begins:

--Meeting with local jurisdictions about zoning, setbacks, permit costs, and timelines

-Coordinating with well drillers and power companies to confirm utilities and capacity

-Working with local health officials to determine septic types, locations, and requirements

-Being intentional about budgets, finishes, and scope — because “winging it” becomes change orders and cost overruns later

-Accurate material takeoffs so you’re not blindsided by shortages or price jumps

-Coordinating timelines and scopes of work with every subcontractor involved

-Communicating with lenders or banks to make sure funding aligns with the build schedule

All of this should happen before a shovel hits the ground.

Don’t start a build blind. Find a contractor who does the groundwork, protects your investment, and keeps your project on track from the very first step.

Amazing what can happen in a couple days time. We removed the old sliding glass door and window, then installed a gorgeous Bi Fild door from Pella Windows and Doors that now allows for 11 feet of open air to their back deck. Thank you to Mimi Powers in lining us up with the work and the beautiful windows and doors...more to come!!!
