With the past couple of 80 degree days carpenter bees are emerging. The female bores a half inch gallery in wood to deposit her eggs. They are basically solitary but you may see many buzzing around the home, wood fences, etc. to build their nest. There is nothing available to deter them from your home. Aerosol insecticde sprays can be used on the bees or sprayed into their galleries to kill the adult and/or larva. Carpenter Bee traps can be placed around the structure which trap the bees. These can be purchased at local hardware stores or on line. Attached is a picture of a carpenter bee and a trap available for helping to control the carpenter bees.

Most homeowners do not care to venture in their crawlspace, which is a prime area for termites to enter the home. The garage is also a good way for termites to achieve access to the home. The first picture is a termite shelter (mud) tube which they build to travel through, getting started in a garage. They come through the expansion joint at the block foundation and will build their tubes up to the wood. The second picture is a piece of wood with termites. The workers are creamish in color, eat cellulose out of the wood, then return to the nest to feed others. Occasionally when in the garage look for signs of these tubes. It's good to inspect the crawl area annually to detect signs of termites. Call us if we can be of assistance @
