Basement Waterproofing and Yard Drainage Consulting
According to the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, most basement waterproofing issues are the result of poor surface drainage around the home and should be corrected from the outside. Though an "exterior remedy" is usually my preferred recommendation, there are some cases when an “exterior only” remedy is not the best approach. In many of
these cases, the only realistic and cost-effective solution would be to address these problems with inside waterproofing measures or a combination of both inside and outside measures. Unfortunately, most contractors specialize in either an “inside only” or an “outside only” solution and are thus motivated to steer you towards the type of projects that they sell rather than the best approach for your particular problem. Many patio and decking contractors are not well-versed in drainage or basement waterproofing problems and how they should be corrected before a deck or patio is installed. I have ongoing relationships with local Engineers, Exterior and Interior Basement Waterproofing, Mold Remediation, Patio, Deck, and Yard Drainage and Erosion Contractors. I also personally know the owner of each of these companies and I know they stand firmly behind their work. I provide basement waterproofing and exterior yard drainage consultations for a flat fee of $150.00. This gives you up to 3 hours of my time and my written report. Each problem is unique and my report will include my recommendation for the best contractor and the best solution for your particular problem. Many times my report will also include recommendations for things you can do yourself to help solve or lessen your problems. My consultation fee will be applied towards any work you decide to have done providing you contract with the company or companies I recommend. I provide a “Satisfaction Guarantee” on all consultations. If you are unhappy with my expertise I will waive the consultation fee with no arguments. I also have extensive experience with the installation of Basement Egress Windows and Basement Egress Doors in older homes. In order to finish off the basement of a home, national and local building codes require that a basement have 2 means of escape (Egress). If the basement has a bedroom, one of those exits must be in the bedroom itself. Installation of these Egress Windows or Doors must comply with National and Local “Egress Codes” and local permits are required for these projects. I can advise you as to the proper drainage and special structural considerations that must be observed when cutting into and excavating next to load-bearing exterior walls on these projects.
