Earlier this year the hardwood floors in a rental across town started warping, right after the Fourth of July. Water had gotten underneath them somehow.

Before anyone wrote a number down, the crew was in the attic, in the crawl space and under the plumbing, looking for where the water was actually coming from. A bid that replaces the boards and misses the source isn't a fix, it's a callback with a delay on it.

That's David, who owns the place, telling it in his own words.

The crew's up on ladders this week, working the exterior of a house that's had a lot go into it lately. New siding went in, primed and painted to match before anything else goes back up. Panel by panel, not the most glamorous part of the job, but it's the part that makes it hold up in this heat.

A full walk through the finished 2629 Goldfinch guest bath, doors open this time. New double vanity, new tile, a rainfall shower that wasn't there before.

This one's already led to more. The same homeowners just signed on for the kitchen, master bath, mantle area, and landscaping next, so there's a lot more from this house still to come.

Seven weeks before this kitchen was finished, the vent hood looked like this.

It didn't come out of a box. The shape was framed and finished on site, held up against the ceiling, marked, and cut to fit that wall. That's the part nobody posts.

You saw the finished kitchen last week. This is how it got there.

Two and a half months ago this was a screened porch in Crestview. Now it's a music room, and it gets used every day.

The part nobody photographs: framing, insulation, electrical and drywall, plus the floor, which was deck boards when we started.

We wove about 160 square feet of new hardwood into the existing floor instead of stopping at the doorway with a threshold strip. That's most of the difference between a room that got added and a room that reads like it was always there.

Back in July we showed you this one down to the studs. Here it is finished.

Glass tile floor to ceiling, a patterned band running through the shower and into the niche, custom cabinets built and sealed on site, and a lit mirror that makes the whole room feel twice its size.

Same footprint. We didn't move a wall — you don't always have to.
