Two and a half months ago this was a screened porch in Crestview. Now it's a music room, and it gets used every day.

The part nobody photographs: framing, insulation, electrical and drywall, plus the floor, which was deck boards when we started.

We wove about 160 square feet of new hardwood into the existing floor instead of stopping at the doorway with a threshold strip. That's most of the difference between a room that got added and a room that reads like it was always there.

Back in July we showed you this one down to the studs. Here it is finished.

Glass tile floor to ceiling, a patterned band running through the shower and into the niche, custom cabinets built and sealed on site, and a lit mirror that makes the whole room feel twice its size.

Same footprint. We didn't move a wall — you don't always have to.

That tile is going where a linen closet used to be. The closet came out so the vanity could run the length of the wall, with new cabinets above and below — built and sealed in the garage on site, cut to fit the space instead of ordered to fit a catalog. The tub stays put, with a new tiled surround and a shelf.

The linen closet came out so the vanity could run the length of the wall, with new cabinets going in above and below. The tub stays put, but it's getting a new tiled surround and a shelf.
