Low-water, high-drama. 🌵✨Drought-tolerant doesn’t mean boring. By pairing the architectural, sword-like lines of Yucca and the sculptural rosettes of Agave with the fiery, exotic blooms of Leucospermum (pincushion protea), you get a masterclass in texture, contrast, and color that thrives on neglect.

Perennial Herbs to Plant Now

August is one of the best times to get perennial herbs in the ground here in Sonoma County. The soil’s still warm, the heat is easing, and roots have a full season to settle in before winter rain arrives.

Here’s what’s on our tables right now:

🌿 Rosemary — Foxtail, Spice Island, and Tuscan Blue
🌿 Thyme — Golden Lemon and English
🌿 Oregano — Sicilian and Greek
🌿 Tarragon — French
🌿 Sage — common
🌿 Chives — garlic and onion

Most of these want the same thing: full sun and well-drained soil. Give them 12–18” of space to spread (chives are the exception — 6–8” is plenty).

Plant now, water consistently while they establish, and by next spring you’ll have a mature herb bed doing the work for you.

Come in and visit. We can’t wait to see you!!

Right now the tables are full of pretty faces — and the pollinators agree. 🐝

Chocolate Cosmos brings deep, velvety maroon blooms (and yes, they really do smell like chocolate) that bees and butterflies can’t resist.

Cosmos Sensation Radiance — bright, open blooms that are also a crowd favorite all season long.

Marigolds in Disco and Durango Mix bring in that classic red-and-gold color, drawing in bees along the way.

And Fan Flower ‘Purple Haze’ rounds it out with clusters of purple blooms that pollinators flock to.

Plant a few of these together and you’ve got a little pollinator party right in your garden or on your patio. 🦋🦋🦋

Come in and see all the beauty!!

Watering tips from Jon, our Nursery Production Manager:

As we move deeper into summer, we’re starting to see fluctuating heat waves — sometimes drastic swings in temperature that can make watering tricky to navigate, even for experienced gardeners.

A wilting plant doesn’t always mean thirsty — overwatered plants wilt too. Before you reach for the hose, check the soil first. If it’s dry, give it a deep, thorough watering. If it’s already wet, hold off — let it dry out before watering again, and make sure the pot or bed is draining well.

Same goes for heat waves. It’s tempting to just water more when temps spike, but a jump in temperature doesn’t always mean double the water — sometimes it just means a little sooner. Watch the plant, not the forecast.

Having the right tool helps too. Our Dramm Rain Wand gives a gentle, even shower that’s soft enough for seedlings and hanging baskets. And if you want more control, Dramm also makes an interchangeable spray head — sold separately — with nine settings, from misting to soaking and everything in between, so you can match the water to the plant.

Facts over fear. Your plants (and your water bill) will thank you. Let us know if you have any watering questions!

Beautiful pots for a beautiful garden.

Our Benocci and Poggi planters come from Italy — handmade, with the kind of texture and patina that only gets better with age. They’re perfect for showcasing your drought-tolerant favorites.

Two we’re loving right now:

Cordyline australis ‘Torbay Dazzler’ — sword-shaped leaves striped in green, creamy gold, and reddish highlights near the center. Fragrant flowers, evergreen, and an excellent container plant.

Chamaerops humilis (European fan palm) — cold-hardy with through winters with spring blooms that give way to small round fruit in yellow, orange, and brown.

These are just two of the drought-tolerant plants we carry — come by and see the rest paired with our full terra-cotta lineup.
