Appliance tip.
Musty/Moldy smell on front load washer.
Do you have a front load washer? Ever find that your clothes smell musty after being washed.
Here are a couple of tips for you.
Preventative:
Cut down on the amount of soap you use. High efficiency detergent is very concentrated so use between one half to one third less detergent.
Keep your washer door open just a crack. This will allow the machine to dry and help prevent the smell from happening in the first place.
Clean the washer. Wipe down the soap dispenser drawer and the inside of the door including the door seal.
Elimination of smell:
There are several products at the store you can get including Tide, Affresh and Washer Magic all appear to work well.
There is also the option to use products you have around the house. Do not mix these products as there may be a chemical reaction we just do not want.
1) run a cycle or 2 with just chlorine bleach. Followed by a cycle or 2 with just water to ensure you do not put bleach spots on any clothing in the next load.
2) Run a cycle with a cup of white vinegar in the drum. Also fill the bleach dispenser with white vinegar after the first rinse the washer will push out first cup of vinegar. Followed by a cycle of water to rinse the machine.
