I know many of you are disappointed with the aeration and seeding this fall due to the extremely dry conditions we've been experiencing throughout Western North Carolina. People are beginning to question how low the levels in Lake Hickory have become. While it has been over 3 months since we've had any measurable rainfall, the good news is that the temperatures for the most part have been extremely moderate for this time of year and have kept the damage to a minimum. But for comparisons sake, here is a write-up of the 2007 drought which remains the most horrifying one North Carolina has ever experienced, and produced several instances of reservoirs throughout the state being on a 2 months or less supply of water left. I personally can remember walking out onto the lake bed in Hickory over 100 ft out where water used to be 6 to 7 ft deep and not finding a drop. Rain is on its way and we are supposed to have an extremely wet winter, so be thankful and enjoy the rest of the Fall.
