Important Duke Energy permitting update for waterfront property owners. Effective July 1st, 2026, Duke Energy will no longer issue new dock permits for vacant waterfront lots on Duke Energy-managed lakes. If you’re building a new home, it must be fully framed and “dried in” (shingles, windows, doors, etc.) before Duke Energy will review a new dock permit application. Shoreline stabilization permits for vacant lots will still be reviewed and approved.
