Wrapped up beam and trim work today on a Hicksville split-level remodel. Exposed framing got cleaned up and we milled new wood on site so the finish work lines up tight around the openings. 🪚

Kevin set the joints with a Domino-style floating tenon layout and then planed the stock to a consistent thickness before install, so the casing sits flat and stays true. Drywall is going up today after a beam install on a Hicksville split-level, and the room is finally starting to take shape.

We framed out the new opening, squared up the ceiling plane, and closed in around the new header so the next trades can move cleanly. One key detail: we used 5/8" drywall on the ceiling with screws on tight spacing to keep it stiff and cut down on future cracking at the seams. 🪚

In 2025, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized new lead dust standards that directly affect contractors, painters, remodelers, and renovation firms working in pre-1978 homes and child-occupied facilities. The EPA also updated its definition of target housing as it relates to lead-safe RRP jobs. Now in 2026, these changes are subject to compliance requirements and must be adhered to.

Many renovation and painting projects disturb painted surfaces that may contain lead. Once disturbed, lead dust can spread throughout a property and create serious health risks—especially for children under six and pregnant women. EPA’s updated rule lowers acceptable dust-lead levels and revises several definitions within the lead program regulations.
