Happy 3/14 to all who celebrate !
Pi is a constant here at the shop and even though it’s completely irrational , without it us coopers would be a bunch of squares .

D. Fir staves for our 40 gallon tank . The staves are the vertical pieces of any barrel or tank

Stave is plural for staff, like leaves are plural for leaf .
Our ancestors used to have to fight off attacks from wild animals, and the only thing that they would usually have at their disposal would be a staff or a Stave.
We still use this term today to talk about fighting off something as in “the doctors wee trying to stave off infection “

A New York sugarmaker reached out ( a farmer who makes maple syrup is called a ‘sugarmaker”.)
He said he was specifically interested in harvesting sap the old fashioned way with buckets, wooden sap tank, and sled.
“Nowadays everything is mechanized and most sap is collected by plastic tubing piped from the trees to the sugar house.” , the sugar maker told me

He sent a picture which I posted above and he asked that we make it out of Cypress. This is the first time I was at attempting a tapered tub like this so we made a smaller scale prototype and tested our bands. A tapered hopper will be set on top .
And now that we have a good plan we’re gonna move forward and start milling up the Cypress.
