PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Due to the snow and ice and prolonged cold temperatures, many homes in the area are experiencing somethin rare in this latitude.
Ice dams are forming on the eaves of many homes.
This happens beacause the air in the attic is warmer than the air outside, and thus the ice melts from the bottom up, trapping the water beneath the ice. As we all know, water travels the path of least resistance- which is under the shingles and into the home.
The good news is, homeowners who experience significant interior damage from this rare for our region situation, can file a claim with their homeowner policy.
Interior repairs from water damage (properly done) tend to be very expensive, and nobody should be paying for those repairs out of pocket who has a homeowners policy.
I spent some of the day today breaking up the ice dams, its not easy but a smart thing to do or have done.
