Today we performed a detailed repair assessment on wind-damaged asphalt shingles

When a shingle creases from wind uplift, the issue isn’t just the visible damage. The real question is:

👉 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲𝘀?

During a proper repairability assessment, we evaluate:

✔️ Wind-induced creasing and flexural damage
✔️ Loss of elastic recovery
✔️ Compromised self-seal adhesive
✔️ Whether lifting or replacing one shingle disturbs adjacent, sealed shingles
✔️ Risk of breaking factory seal strips during manipulation

Here’s what many don’t realize:

When you lift a sealed shingle to replace one damaged shingle, you may disturb the surrounding shingles. That disturbance can create new points of failure - even if those shingles were previously functional.

If surrounding shingles lose their functionality during a repair attempt, the roof system is no longer restored to its pre-loss condition.

Insurance carriers may count individual shingles.
We assess system performance.

If your roof experienced high winds, make sure the evaluation includes disturbance testing, not just a shingle count.
