The last few days have been a reminder of just how quickly things can change.

This storm hit our local communities hard, and our guys have been working nearly around the clock — putting in 15- and 16-hour days helping families get trees off homes, clear driveways, and make their properties safe again.

I couldn’t be more proud of our crew. These are long, exhausting days, but nobody is complaining. They’re showing up because this is our community too. We live here, raise our families here, run our business here, and these are our friends and neighbors.

To everyone in Highland, Milford, Hartland, Brighton, Commerce and the surrounding areas who was affected by the storm — we’re here for you.

If you have a tree on your home, garage, vehicle, or another structure and it requires specialized equipment, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Our crane and experienced storm-response crew are equipped to handle difficult and dangerous removals safely.

And if you have an elderly neighbor, friend, or family member who needs help, please check on them. Sometimes the people who need help the most are the last ones to ask for it.

We’ll keep working as long as our community needs us.

Big things are happening at Van Gordon Tree & Land Solutions. 🌳

The past week has been another reminder of how far this company and our team have come.

We’re heading into a new chapter with some exciting changes ahead — new trucks and equipment on the way, a more efficient operation, and great opportunities for the people on our team to step up, lead, sell, and continue building their own futures within this company.

I also want to recognize Dan, our operations manager and a good friend of mine. Dan has played a huge role in helping grow this company and build the operation we have today. His knowledge, work ethic, and commitment have made a lasting impact, and I’m genuinely grateful for everything he has brought to the team.

As Dan prepares to move on, I want to thank him for everything he has contributed during his time with Van Gordon Tree & Land Solutions. I wish him the very best in whatever comes next, and I’ll always appreciate the role he played in helping build this company.

One thing I’ve really enjoyed lately is running a smaller, tighter crew. Everyone has a bigger role, everyone matters, and it’s been awesome watching our guys take ownership of jobs and make things happen without needing me involved in every decision.

Over the years, I’ve learned that growing a business isn’t always about getting bigger. Sometimes it’s about getting better, becoming more efficient, and building the right team around you.

We’ve invested heavily in equipment and technology over the years, and the next round of trucks and equipment coming in is all about doing more with less — keeping our operation versatile, efficient, and capable of handling just about anything that comes our way.

I’m excited about where we’re headed and the opportunities ahead for the people who have helped build this company alongside me.

A lot is changing, but we’re moving forward with a strong team, a solid foundation, and a clear vision for the future.

The future of Van Gordon Tree & Land Solutions is looking pretty damn good. 💪🌳

Stay tuned — the next chapter is going to be a good one.

Three generations of VanGordons on the job site today. ❤️

Today was one of those days that puts everything into perspective.

We had three generations of VanGordons together on a Habitat for Humanity project — my dad, myself, and my son. My dad is the lead project manager on this build, and today our Van Gordon Tree & Land Solutions crew was there using our crane to help set the trusses.

I feel incredibly lucky that our company has the equipment, the people, and the ability to be part of projects like this.

I’m also extremely proud of how far my team has come. These guys are taking ownership of jobs from start to finish, with or without me there. Watching them make decisions, operate our equipment, take care of customers, and become leaders themselves has been one of the most rewarding parts of building this company.

For a lot of years, I thought being a good leader meant being involved in everything. I’m learning that sometimes leadership means teaching people, trusting them, and then getting out of their way so they can excel.

And Habitat for Humanity projects are especially meaningful. You leave knowing that you were part of something bigger than just another job. We aren’t just setting trusses today — we’re helping build homes and creating a future for multiple families who will eventually make memories inside these walls.

Having my dad leading the project, our company helping with the build, and my son standing there watching three generations work together made today pretty special.

Proud of my dad. Proud of my son. Proud of my team. And grateful that Van Gordon Tree & Land Solutions gets to play a small part in something that will mean so much to these families.

Three generations. One job site. And hopefully a lesson for the next generation about hard work, leadership, and giving back. 🇺🇸❤️

Thank you, Habitat for Humanity, for allowing us to be part of it.

Another successful removal in the books!

We’re incredibly proud of our crew for safely removing this large failing multi-stem linden tree that had experienced a major stem failure. One of the primary leaders had already split and failed, while the remaining stems showed significant structural concerns, decay, and included bark unions that left the tree at high risk for additional failure.

With homes, decks, landscaping, and neighboring property all within the drop zone, there was no room for error. Our team carefully dismantled the tree section by section using our specialized crane equipment, ensuring every piece was safely controlled from start to finish.

This is exactly why we invest in the best equipment and, more importantly, the best people. Their professionalism, communication, and attention to safety were outstanding throughout the project.

A huge thank you to our crew for another job well done. We couldn’t be more proud of the work they continue to do every day to protect our customers’ homes and families.

If you have a tree that doesn’t look right, don’t wait until it fails. Give us a call for a professional evaluation before it becomes an emergency.

🚨 Emergency Tree Service | Pine K**b Music Theatre 🚨

When the call came in around 6:30 PM on July 3, a large tree had failed during an active concert at Pine K**b Music Theatre. High winds caused an approximately 36-inch diameter tree with a severely decayed base to fall across a primary access road, leaving it suspended on two adjacent trees and resting on a chain-link fence.

Situations like this require more than just chainsaws—they require experience, specialized equipment, and a crew that can safely work under pressure.

Our team immediately mobilized with our Grapple Saw Crane, Grapple Truck, Bucket Truck, Service Truck, and Ditch Witch equipment to safely stabilize and remove the hazardous tree. Using the crane, we were able to carefully lift the suspended tree off the fence, minimizing additional property damage while protecting the surrounding area.

The two compromised adjacent trees were also safely removed, all debris was processed and hauled away, and the roadway was reopened so traffic could safely resume.

Storm damage is unpredictable, but our goal is always the same:
✅ Respond quickly
✅ Work safely
✅ Protect people and property
✅ Get your property back to normal as efficiently as possible

A big thank you to our crew for another safe and professional emergency response.

If a storm leaves you with hazardous trees, blocked driveways, or trees on structures, VanGordon Tree & Land Solutions is available 24/7 to respond. Our specialized crane equipment allows us to safely handle complex tree removals that many companies simply can’t.

🌳 Every Tree Has a Story… This One Taught an Important Lesson. 🌳

This week our crew was working in downtown Ann Arbor, removing a massive dead oak tree from a college housing property. If you look closely at the photos, you’ll notice the basketball court painted with the iconic Block “M”—a pretty cool reminder that we were working right in the heart of Wolverine country! 💙💛

While this removal required specialized equipment, including our 90-foot spider lift and grapple saw crane, the tree itself told a much bigger story.

Years of storm damage and old pruning wounds had left this oak vulnerable. Those injuries are often the starting point for one of Michigan’s most devastating tree diseases: Oak Wilt.

🌳 Did You Know?

In Michigan, oak trees should generally NOT be pruned between April 15 and July 15.

During this time, sap-feeding beetles are highly active and are attracted to fresh pruning cuts. If those beetles have visited an infected oak, they can carry the Oak Wilt fungus directly into a healthy tree. Once infected, many red oaks can decline and die within just a few weeks.

The safest time to prune oak trees is late fall through winter, when the insects responsible for spreading the disease are inactive.

Unfortunately, by the time many homeowners notice the symptoms, it’s often too late to save the tree.

This particular oak showed classic signs of a long history of damage—whether from storms, improper pruning during the growing season, or both. While we can’t say exactly what caused its decline, the old wounds were a reminder of how important proper tree care is.

Removals like this aren’t just about cutting down a tree. They’re about protecting nearby homes, fences, utilities, and people while preserving the health of the trees that can still be saved.

If you have mature oaks on your property and you’re considering pruning, call an experienced arborist first. A properly timed pruning job today could save a beautiful 100-year-old oak tomorrow.

Thank you, Ann Arbor, for trusting VanGordon Tree & Land Solutions with another challenging removal.

🌳 Protecting people. Preserving trees. Safely handling the jobs others won’t.

What. A. Week.

From emergency storm damage to precision crane removals, site grading, and everything in between, our team put in the work this week.

Every photo tells a story:
🌳 Emergency trees off homes.
🏗️ Grapple saw crane work in tight spaces.
🚜 Large-scale site grading and land preparation.
💪 Safe removals that protected homes, roofs, and landscapes.
🤝 Most importantly, taking care of families when they needed us most.

One review this week really summed up what we strive for every day:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“5 stars is nowhere near enough! Justin took complete ownership of the recovery process… way above and beyond. The VanGordon team exceeded our expectations by miles!”

That means more to us than any advertisement ever could.

To every customer who trusted VanGordon Tree & Land Solutions this week—thank you. We don’t just remove trees. We solve problems, protect property, and see projects through from start to finish.

Whether it’s a dangerous tree over your home, storm recovery, crane removals, land clearing, or site grading, we’re ready to help.
