Austin, my friend and neighbor, is gearing up for high school graduation. He’s an ambitious guy! During his senior year, Austin attended high school and also took classes at Western Dakota Tech in Rapid City. He serves as a cadet fireman with the Hill City Fire Department and a cadet EMT with the Hill City Ambulance Service. Austin recently received a Meritorious Action award for his service with the Explorers program through the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office. On a personal note, I feel blessed to have been friends with Austin and his parents since our move to Hill City eight years ago. Allan and I have watched Austin grow from a happy, helpful, friendly 5th grader to a handsome responsible young man, who has a bright future. Best wishes always Austin Claymore!

I was honored to take Shelby’s senior pictures and to spend time with Shelby and her handsome boyfriend Neal. Shelby is a sweet and beautiful high school senior with a bright and happy future, and she’s looking forward to high school graduation at Mount Rushmore Monument in May 2016.
As most readers know, Shelby spent the last three years fighting for her life. She was diagnosed in November 2012 with a bone marrow disease called Very Severe Aplastic Anemia, and was in and out of hospitals in SD, MN, and NY. She endured a series of immune suppressant treatments, life threatening complications, chemo and radiation, a bone marrow transplant, post-transplant Lymphoproliferative Disorder, Von Willebrand Factor, and a trial study treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York that cured her cancer.
Shelby is truly a brave and incredible woman. She is faith filled, thankful, and an inspiration to all. To know her is to love her. Hill City's 2nd Annual Girlfriends' Weekend is planned for Nov 7, 2014, starting at noon and going through 4 pm on Nov 8. Girlfriends will receive a passport identifying the 32 participating merchants. Each merchant will display an 8 x 10 framed image of Hill City. Girlfriends who enter at least 21 photo titles in their passport will qualify for a chance to win great prizes. The images, depicting the essence of Hill City, are from Judy Larson's portfolio.
