One of the other final projects in our new house build: the utility sink. I used a hickory sink base and a butcher block countertop (which is stained dark and urethaned - and matches the wood floors in the house), which I also used in the upstairs bathrooms. I decided to splurge on a Ruvati sink. We have one in the kitchen, and we love it. Not only does this sink match, but it comes with an inset cutting board. I routed out the opening for the sink so that it would sit flush with the countertop (this is a top mount sink), and I milled some furrring strips for the cutting board so that it would also sit flush. The result is that we have a useful countertop when we are not using the sink.

I finished one of the final projects on our personal house build - the fireplace. I used “New England Rounds” stone veneer for the fireplace surround and slate for the hearth. The mantle is built out of pine and is mounted on a cleat underneath.

There is a new house going in across the road from us, and the site has ledge that needs to be blasted. I was able to get a quick video to show those of you have never seen this happen!

As I approach the finish line of building our family home, one of the remaining jobs left is to finish the fireplace surround. We will be installing natural stone veneer. I can’t wait to see it completed!
