9.5 hours on site today leading the HS summer crew’s 3rd day of work!! They are doing most of the work on this cottage exterior. Monday, Kasey taught them how to prepare supplies for the job, apply caulk, and scrape peeling concretr block. Tuesday, more caulking and priming. Today, more caulking and priming and learning/supporting the basics of using a paint sprayer, as I led spraying the entire foundation and then the wood soffits. Only 44 tubes of caulk used so far! 😂

😳 😳 HAND SCRAPING??? REALLY!? // Hand scraping cannot be skipped when we take care of 🏠 historic homes 🏠 like this one here in Hillsdale County. It’s a basic process: take a sharp, blade scraper to EVERY surface of an exterior repaint 😅😅. It’s not exciting. It can’t be rushed. And it ensures that water isn’t unnecessarily pressurized INTO the historic wood, shortening its life, sending water into the wall and behind siding, to be trapped in old soffits, etc. 🤯 😡 😮 Pressure Washing has its place, but Easy and Fast isn’t always BEST. Where older paint has its Adhesion Integrity, our painters scrape around it and leave it alone to become part of the new primer and topcoat layers, continuing to do its job. Forcefully Removing well-adhered paint the wrong way hurts your exterior surfaces 😢 , particularly historic wood. Then we give it the BEST PRIMER generously: in this case, Zinsser 1-2-3 classic Oil-Based Wood Primer. We love historic homes, and our tidy, tried-and-true process provides our customers with the best! 🤩🤩🤩
