AN ALERT FOR DOG LOVERS EVERYWHERE..
In honor of National Dog Day, we feel compelled to tell other dog people about a recent scary incident with our adored14-year old cocker spaniel rescue dog Baci Good-Girl!
Sharing our story seems especially important since we had never heard of "Old Dog Vestibular Syndrome," aka vertigo when it hits you and me.
How could we not know?! Even after decades of family dogs, including Pucci and Finzi, we had never heard of this sudden disturbance of the inner ear that causes severe dizziness, loss of coordination and a tilted head. Not to mention nystagmus, where the eyes flicker quickly from side to side.
The abrupt onset is deeply alarming and mimics a stroke.
We visited 3 Veterinary Hospitals before learning from a neurologist vet that if an MRI confirmed no hidden condition in Baci, we would see gradual, noticeable improvement in 48 to 72 hours.
Soon after we learned that this condition would resolve itself, we heard the magic words, "Baci is back!"
And that's our PSA ;- )
