weather, update. No rain forecasted thill this weekend. With temperatures in the low-mid eighties all week. gotta get plenty of water onto your lawns to keep them nice and green. Remember when a lawn goes into heat/drought stress, I can not safely apply broadleaf herbicide to a lawn in that condition.

My motorized fertilizer spreader/herbicide sprayer is going in for some maintenance. I do not know how long it will be in the shop, I am guessing till the beginning of July. This will postpone 2nd application. the diamond in the rough with this situation is that by the time my machine is out of the shop, this hot and dry weather pattern may end and a new weather pattern may move into the area bringing cooler temps and more rain. This would help alleviate lawns that are in severe heat/drought stresses, that are preventing me from applying broadleaf herbicide to lawns. applying broadleaf herbicide to lawns in severe heat/drought stress can cause additional stress and potentially damage lawns.

I have seen a forecast for this coming week that we may hit 90 degree temps again, for all of my customers. Make sure you are getting plenty of water onto your lawns, to help alleviate these above normal temps. Here in W. Michigan we plant cool weather grass species (Kentucky Blue Grass, Fescue and Rye). Non of these species do well in such hot temps. I can not prevent heat/drought stress to your lawns. You, the homeowner, is the one that has the ability by irrigating your lawn everyday to help reduce the potential of your lawn going into heat/drought stress. Run your sprinklers in the morning, beginning at about sunrise, then again at 1 pm, the morning irrigation session is to get water into the soil so the root system of your lawn has access to water to drink, the afternoon irrigation session purpose is to cool the lawn down. If your lawn turns yellow, it is in heat/drought stress. This prevents me from safely applying fertilizer and broadleaf w**d control to your lawn. Your irrigation goal is to apply 2 1/2" every 7 days, this amounts to 1/3" of water applied everyday. the amount of water applied to your lawn dictates your zone run times. Not zone run times dictateing the amount of water you apply to your lawn. If you have any questions on how to accomplish this irrigation goal, email me at [email protected].
