Must be that Spartan resilience. Go green! 💚 🌳

What is now a severed trunk on the northeast corner of the Michigan State University Museum was once a giant, flourishing white oak tree — a “quercus alba” to be exact. The Resilient Oak Tree, thought to be the oldest tree on campus, has lived an estimated 375 to 400 years.

Research from the U.S., Canada, Austria, and other countries found humans automatically relax when they are surrounded by elements from the natural world. When it comes to building materials, there's nothing more natural than wood.

Harvesting trees on a property primarily utilized for hunting whitetail is not only great to increase acorn production from oak species, but also the best thing you can do for deer habitat in general.

By properly thinning oak trees, it allows them to have more sunlight, water, and nutrients; in turn they produce more acorns. Harvesting stimulates growth of new trees and brush, which provide forage for deer as well as ideal bedding areas. The tops of the harvested trees provide deer cover and browse. 🌳 🦌

Deer love acorns, but hunters should see them as a periodic bonus. Forage and browse production is more important to year-round deer nutrition.

At Michigan Forestry Co., managing forests sustainably is our main objective. To do this, land ownership goals must be our first priority.

Good forest management takes into consideration landowner goals first and then tailors a forest prescription around those goals. Landowner goals, optimal health of the forest, and maximizing timber value can all be met at the same time with the right plan.

A good forester will be able to give you tools to enhance your wildlife habitat in its current condition and create a long term wildlife plan. As avid outdoor enthusiasts and deer hunters, we're not just a forestry company. Our hobby shares so much crossover with our profession.

Find yourself a forester who shares your passion with their profession. As deer hunters and foresters, we've got you covered. Send us a message for a free forest consultation on your hunting property!

I recently received a question from a QDMA member that went something like this: “I just purchased some land, and I’m looking to turn it into a great deer hunting property. I contacted a forester who looked at the property and gave some advice, but I don’t think he understands what I’m looki...

Want to protect your land when conducting a timber harvest? Your best option is to hire a consulting forester to manage your timber sale contract and harvest operations. Here's an example of a sale gone wrong for the landowner.

All too often we get called to help when the damage is already done, both financially and in the woods. Have questions about setting up a successful timber sale and harvest, send us a message!

Learning happens in the forests. We are proud to work with private landowners to ensure that forests are around to provide many generations with opportunities to to learn and explore.

Investing in organizations that support development of our future landowners is critical. This year we have chosen to support Ready for School as they blaze a trail to prepare, equip and support children and families for kindergarten in Holland, Zeeland, and Hamilton.

Learning happens at the intersection of KIDS and PLACE.
We invite you to join us in exploring our Community as a Classroom at the Ready for School Annual Breakfast

This year will feature select Community Theme Sponsors, including Michigan Forestry Co. to portray local
places in our local community where kids can learn!

Trees share some of the most unique beginnings. The seeds of this hemlock and yellow birch landed on an old rotting stump. With the passage of time, they created this natural masterpiece.
