Before hurricane season ramps up, take time to review your insurance policy and speak with your agent about your deductible. Many homeowners are surprised to learn how storm deductibles apply, or that their policy may include a separate “Named Storm Deductible” for hurricanes and tropical storms. Understanding your coverage now can help you avoid unexpected costs after a loss.
Hurricane preparation starts before a storm is ever in the forecast. Having emergency supplies ready ahead of time can help reduce stress and keep your household safer during hurricane season.
Here’s a basic checklist to help you prepare:
✔️ Water supply (3–6 gallons per person, per day)
✔️ Nonperishable food, baby formula, and pet food
✔️ Manual can opener and disposable utensils
✔️ Flashlights and extra batteries
✔️ Blankets and extra clothing
✔️ Full tank of gas
✔️ Portable radio
✔️ First aid kit
✔️ Current ID or passport
✔️ Cash for emergencies
✔️ Backup battery or solar charger for phones
✔️ Vehicle registration/tag information for beach access areas
✔️ Owner’s inventory spreadsheet for documentation purposes
