Grill, Chill, Repeat: Building an Outdoor Kitchen You'll Actually Live In
It's October on the Suncoast. The humidity's finally backing off (a little), the lovebugs are mostly gone, and there's a game on just about every weekend from here to February.
This is the stretch of year most of us actually live outside. It's also when the phone starts ringing with folks in Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch and Sarasota who've stared at their small concrete slab out back all summer thinking, "We really ought to do something with that."
Funny thing, though. When we sit down for a consultation, hardly anybody asks for "a grill." They own a grill. Usually two. Nobody's dreaming about a plain patio, either. What they describe, almost word for word some days, is somewhere to cook, flop on a couch, catch the Bucs, and not scatter like pigeons when the 4 o'clock storm rolls in.
That's a room. It just doesn't have walls. And the kitchen belongs inside it, not stuck off in a corner of the yard.
So that's what we're getting into here: pairing an outdoor kitchen with a covered living space, what's worth sweating over in the planning, and how to set the whole thing up for game day.
