The temperature that matters for the asphalt being laid is the temperature of the mix at the mat/paver, not just the temperature when it leaves the plant.

Typical process:

* Plant: around 280–325°F
* Truck leaving plant: around 275–325°F
* Truck arrives at job: usually around 250–310°F
* Asphalt being laid behind the screed: generally around 250–300°F
* Breakdown rolling: starts while the mat is still hot, often around 250°F+
* Intermediate rolling: roughly 200–250°F
* Finish rolling: roughly 175–200°F

The exact temperatures depend on the mix and project specifications. The key is that the asphalt needs to be hot enough when it’s actually being placed and compacted, because that’s when temperature directly affects the ability to achieve proper density.
