With this wind, we are seeing quite a few tree limbs down on residential electrical services. If this happens to you, here is what to do:
1. Stay away from any downed electrical wires. They may still be live.
2. Contact your utility company, in our area, that could be National Grid, RG&E or NYSEG. They are are responsible for the wiring from the pole to the attachment point on your house. If any of the wiring on your house from the attachment point down is damaged, they will advise you to call an electrician to make the necessary repairs before they will re-energize your electrical service.
3. If you notice that the power to your house is partially disrupted or you notice your lights dimming or flickering, it is advisable to shut off the main breaker to your house and contact the power company. This may be an indication that one of the three wires that feeds your house has been damaged and the improper voltage may be entering your home and could potentially damage sensitive electronics.
