Why is it important to get your furnace flue swept and inspected yearly?

The first photo shows a mortar joint, and some of it has fallen out. A mortar joint is the cement that is in between each terracotta flue tile. When the mortar falls out it allows by products to escape to areas it shouldn't, causing potential dangers to your health.

The second photo shows a crack in the terracotta flue tile. This could have the same effects of the missing mortar joint but overtime if the terracotta flue tile falls apart and gravity take its course it, could end up blocking the venting of your heating system. This allows your system to back up into your home.

The fix for these issues is to install a stainless steel liner... Which we did! Customer's chimney is now venting properly and no potential dangers to our customer!

Level 2 Inspections!

Usually a serviced used for home sales but are SO beneficial to ANYONE with a heating system.

Whats included in a level 2 inspection and why:

✨️Sweep the chimney (to ensure the chimney is clear and so we able to see any issues as clear as possible)
✨️Run a camera and take pictures (running a camera makes it so we can put our eyes inside the chimney flue to see anything that we wouldnt be able to see from just looking from the top or bottom of the chimney)
✨️Provide a report (a report is then typed up and submitted to you with the pictures and explanations for each photo)
✨️Provide any necessary proposals for any work that might need to be done (any proposals submitted would be work that benefits your home and keeps your family safe)

This is why it is very important to sweep and inspect your chimneys. This is a chimney that was used by someone who burned very heavy. So heavy, that a basic clean will not do the trick and will need a power clean. Continuing to burn with these conditions in your chimney is a recipe for a chimney fire.

Please get your chimney cleaned and inspected yearly!

This is efflorescence. Efflorescence is a white, powdery deposit of mineral salts—often calcium carbonate—that appears on concrete, brick, or masonry surfaces when water dissolves salts within the material and evaporates at the surface. Now, efflorescence isn't necessarily damaging but efflorescence is a sign that your chimney is taking on moisture and thats where it becomes damaging. Eventually the moisture causes spauling. Spauling is where the faces of the brick or terracotta pop off and fall away. Down the road the moisture could end up leaking into your home. Another sign your chimney is taking on moisture is when there is moss and vegetation growth.

All of this can be prevented with some preventative maintenence! Give us a call for a free estimate!

Other services we offer: Sweeps, inspections, chimney certs, liners, installs, masonry repairs, fireguard & chamberguard certified, and more!

All of these images show some potentially dangerous situations going on.

One is a large crack. Next is a mortar joint that is missing some mortar. The last is wood in the ash dump shoot.

Cracks and missing mortar joints allow creosote to travel to places it shouldn't and no matter how many times or how thorough you clean it, you won't be able to get it out. Creosote is very flammable, so the last thing you want is for it to coat combustible materials.

Wood in your ash dump is only used to form the base of your fireplace and should be removed once cured. Sometimes it is forgotten there and not removed. This is a fire hazard and doesnt meet industry standards.

Long story short... Make sure your heating systems are cleaned and inspected yearly. We offer 3 types of inspections. Give us a call or send an email for more information and to schedule your next cleaning and inspection!
