This Summer please remember to dechlorinate water before draining your pool for any maintenance or other needs. Refraining from adding chlorine or any other chemicals for at least 5 days before draining will help to protect our local waterways. The Stormwater Department thanks you in advance for your cooperation and have a great time at the pool!

Johnny Fishpatrick explains that storm drains lead directly to the nearest creek, stream or river and educates about all the trash, soap, pet waste and fertilizer that has made its way to his "house".

If you live near a water body, keep a vegetated buffer between your yard and the water. This helps to remove excess nutrients from yard fertilizer and pollutants from stormwater runoff before it reaches our local waters.

As a follow up to our last post: When performing any kind of digging or dirt-spreading activities, please remember to keep dirt properly contained and off of roads and out of storm drains. Blockages in the storm sewer system can occur over time due in part to sediment accumulation. Excessive amounts of sediment in our waterways can lead to elevated levels of pollutants, bacteria and pathogens that can aid waterborne disease outbreaks that have the potential to harm humans as well as wildlife. The Stormwater Department thanks you in advance for your cooperation!
