Celebrating Future Leaders and Future Thinkers

As part of GRLA’s year-long celebration of our 50th Anniversary, we were honored to award scholarships to recently graduated Hopkinton High School seniors Isabella Rottas and Dylan Andreola.

This year’s scholarship challenged students to respond to the essay prompt:

"Describe how the built environment can support both environmental responsibility and human well-being, now and in the future."

The thoughtful and inspiring responses reflected the creativity, insight, and commitment to sustainability that will help shape the communities of tomorrow. As a firm dedicated to designing spaces that serve people while respecting the environment, we were proud to recognize students who share these values.

Congratulations, Isabella and Dylan, on this well-deserved achievement. We wish you the very best as you begin your next chapter and look forward to seeing the impact you will make in the years ahead.

We're still basking in the fun, laughter, and glow of Friday night's 50th Anniversary Celebration—and we have plenty of photos and memories to share in the days ahead!
Today, however, we want to pause and say thank you to everyone who brought nonperishable food items to support Project Just Because
Your generosity was incredible! Together, you filled our GRLA van with donations that have now been delivered to Project Just Because, helping provide food and support to local families in need.
What began as a celebration of GRLA's first 50 years became something even more meaningful—a way to give back to the community that has supported us throughout our journey.
Thank you for helping us turn our anniversary celebration into an investment in our community's future. ❤️

Congratulations to our co-founder and principal, Scott Richardson, on receiving the Leadership Appreciation Award at the Leadership Metrowest Annual Leadership Celebration on June 11.
The award was presented by retired Leadership MetroWest Executive Director Helen Lemoine, recognizing Scott's decades of leadership, service, and commitment to strengthening the MetroWest community.
For more than 40 years, Scott has been a champion of thoughtful design, community engagement, and mentorship. His impact extends well beyond architecture through his support of civic organizations, dedication to developing future leaders, and passion for creating places that enrich the communities they serve.
As GRLA celebrates its 50th anniversary and Scott prepares for retirement at the end of this milestone year, this recognition is a fitting tribute to the lasting impact he has made on our firm, our profession, and the region we proudly serve.
Please join us in congratulating Scott on this well-deserved honor!

We take breakfast seriously at GRLA. 🍳🥓

Our Annual May Breakfast is one of those traditions that reminds us what 50 years is really built on: great people, strong connections, and a little bit of friendly competition at the griddle.

From pancakes to perfectly timed bacon, this crew shows up for each other just as much as they do for our clients.

Here’s to good food, good company, and a team that makes it all happen—every day.

| Measuring the Journey

At 20 years, we celebrated with a cake that was very on-brand… complete with an architectural scale.

Fast forward to 50 years—
Still building. Still evolving. Still delivering.

To mark the milestone, we’re going a step further with “50 for 50”—50 acts of service to give back to the communities that have shaped us.

Because what we build matters… and so does how we show up.

Here’s to 50 years of GRLA—and everything still ahead.

Happy Earth Day! OUR POWER, OUR PLANET™

“When we started GRLA, sustainability wasn’t a trend or a checklist—it was common sense. We were responding to real challenges, thinking carefully about energy, materials, and performance. To see that same mindset not only endure, but evolve and strengthen over 50 years, is incredibly rewarding. It’s become part of who we are as a firm,” Scott Richardson, GRLA Principal and Co-founder.

This Earth Day offers an opportunity to reflect—not just on where we’ve been, but on how thoughtful, sustainable design continues to shape a more resilient future for our clients and communities. It all starts here.

In Hopkinton’s first mile, where the energy builds, the nerves settle, and months of preparation turn into something unforgettable.

We’re proud to be part of this one-of-a-kind tradition with our Marathon banner along the route—cheering on every runner as they begin the journey to Boston.

Wishing all participants a strong start and an even stronger finish.

Preserving history takes more than a careful eye—it takes getting up close.

Our Building Envelope Sciences team is currently assessing the exterior envelope systems at Nantucket's historic Jared Coffin House and adjacent buildings. Pictured here is BES technician Jayson Schlosser coordinating slate shingle removal for evaluation.

Originally constructed circa 1845 and recognized as one of the island’s first grand mansions, this landmark demands a thoughtful, technically rigorous approach.

Through detailed investigation of the mass masonry and wood-framed systems, our team is developing targeted repair strategies and construction documents to help ensure this iconic structure performs for generations to come.

During Women in Construction Week, GRLA recognizes the women who strengthen our profession through leadership, technical expertise, and community impact.

As architects and building envelope consultants, we see firsthand how critical diverse perspectives are to better problem-solving, stronger partnerships, and more resilient buildings.

To the women in architecture, engineering, construction, and skilled trades — thank you for building environments where everyone belongs.
