I’ve been insulating attics in central Arkansas since I was 15 years old… That was 46 years ago.
This is by far the best Attic system for an energy efficient home.
Step one: Closed Cell Foam on the ductwork provides amazing structural rigidity to the ductwork so it doesn’t come apart down the road. It provides a much better Insulation value on the ductwork and it is immensely better at sealing the ductwork so that you don’t leak 20% of your air-conditioning into the attic.
Step two: air seal the attic floor to eliminate leakage from the home into the attic.
Step three: Radiant Barrier installed at the underside of the roof decking to reduce the overall temperature of the attic.
Step four: install R 38 blown insulation to the top of the previously air, sealed attic floor, bringing the total R value to R45.
We learned in science class somewhere around seventh grade that heat transfers three different ways, conductive transfer convective transfer and Radiant transfer. This system guards against all three. If you look closely in the picture, you can see step 1, 2 & 3
Attic Insulation alone is rarely the answer to an efficient home. Let me know if I can help 501-622-2519.
