A lot goes into getting a surface level before any asphalt is placed.

Proper grading isn't just about aesthetics. It's what controls how water moves across the surface. When a site's graded correctly, water flows where it's supposed to go instead of pooling on the pavement or seeping into the base below.

Uneven grading is one of the most common causes of early pavement problems. Low spots collect water, the base weakens, and cracks or potholes follow. Getting the slope right from the start is one of the most important things we can do for the long-term performance of any project.

It's not the flashiest part of the job, but it's one of the ones that matters most.

Good communication is a big part of what makes a paving project go smoothly.

When clients know what to expect, when the work is happening, and who to call if they have a question, the whole process is easier for everyone. There aren't surprises. There aren't delays nobody saw coming. The project just moves forward the way it's supposed to.

That's something we take seriously at AAA Paving. We'd rather over-communicate than leave a client wondering what's going on.
It's a small thing that makes a big difference.

Quality asphalt paving can last 15 to 25 years. Whether yours actually makes it that far depends on a few key things.

Installation quality is the biggest factor. When the base is properly prepared, the hot mix is placed correctly, and compaction is done right, you're setting the surface up to perform for the long haul. Cut corners on any of those steps and problems tend to show up a lot sooner than expected.

Maintenance matters too. Sealcoating every few years, filling cracks early, and staying on top of small repairs keeps water from getting into the base and causing bigger issues down the road.

In Houston, drainage and base stabilization are especially important. Clay-heavy soil and heavy seasonal rain put extra demands on pavement that wasn't designed with those conditions in mind.

When it's built right from the start and maintained properly, asphalt is one of the most reliable and cost-effective surfaces you can invest in for a commercial property.
