HVAC technicians work in conditions that most people never see.
In the summer, they spend hours in attics where temperatures can exceed 120°F, crawl through tight spaces, and work on scorching rooftops to restore air conditioning for families and businesses. They leave covered in insulation, drenched in sweat, and often exposed to mold, mildew, dust, and other biological growth that can affect their health.
The job is physically demanding and full of hazards. Every day, technicians have to watch for wasps, bees, snakes, electrical hazards, unstable attics, and the constant risk of heat exhaustion, dehydration, falls, and serious injuries.
They also carry thousands of dollars' worth of tools and equipment in their service vehicles. While they're focused on helping customers, they have to remain vigilant against theft because losing those tools can mean losing the ability to provide for their families.
Because of the nature of the job, many HVAC technicians and their families plan vacations, holidays, birthdays, and special events around the weather. Peak heating and cooling seasons often mean long days, late nights, weekends, and missed family time because customers need them most.
