Texas Weather Alert ⚠️ | Safety Tips for This Weekend
With the sudden temperature drop and unpredictable weather hitting Houston and much of Texas this weekend, now is the time to prepare not react. From a contractor’s perspective, here are a few key things homeowners, property owners, and businesses should keep an eye on:
1️⃣ Protect Your Pipes
• Insulate exposed pipes (especially exterior walls, garages, and crawl spaces)
• Let faucets drip slightly overnight during freezing temps
• Know where your main water shut-off valve is just in case
2️⃣ HVAC & Heating Check
• Replace filters and make sure your system isn’t overworking
• Avoid using unsafe space heaters (keep them away from flammable materials)
• If heat goes out, call early service demand spikes fast during cold snaps
3️⃣ Roofs, Gutters & Drainage
• Clear debris from gutters to prevent ice dams and water backup
• Check for loose shingles or flashing cold + wind exposes weak points
• Interior ceiling stains = address immediately before they worsen
4️⃣ Power & Electrical Awareness
• Avoid overloading circuits with heaters or extension cords
• Keep flashlights and backup batteries ready
• If power goes out, don’t DIY electrical fixes wait for professionals
5️⃣ Jobsite & Property Safety
• Wet or frozen surfaces = slip hazards
• Secure loose materials, fencing, and equipment
• Delay non-essential exterior work until conditions stabilize
