Bathroom exhaust fans are one of the most overlooked leak points in a home. 🚿 When the duct disconnects, sags, or isn’t sealed where it meets the roof or the fan housing, warm humid air dumps straight into your attic. It hits the cold underside of the roof deck, condenses, and drips back down onto your insulation and your bathroom ceiling. That’s how you end up with stained drywall, soft spots, and bubbling paint, and by the time you see it, the damage has been building for a while.
It doesn’t stop at water damage. Those gaps around the exhaust, recessed lights, and attic hatch are open doors between your attic and your living space. If you deal with allergies, you could be breathing attic dust, debris, and fiberglass fibers from the insulation every day. And if rodents have gotten into the attic, their droppings and urine are slowly mixing with the air your family breathes.
A proper fix means sealing and insulating the exhaust duct, venting it outside the home, and closing those gaps. If you’ve got a stain on your bathroom ceiling or you’re always sneezing at home, it’s worth a look. 🏠
