FREEZE WARNING ⚠️⚠️⚠️
Contrary to popular beliefs, wrapping your pipes with foam pipe insulation does not actually keep the pipes from busting.
If the pipes are old, weak, rusted or have not been changed out for quite sometime. When it gets cold enough no amount of pipe foam insulation will help.
Insulation only helps keep the pipes closer to the temperature of the water inside the pipe, but it DOES NOT add extra heat to the pipe and unfortunately WILL NOT prevent freezing if the pipe is exposed to prolonged freezing temperatures. And if it gets cold enough, even new pipes can bust!!
Every year my company alone will replace nearly 100+ pipes in the freeze alone.
My best recommendation,
1. Fill buckets with water to pour in toilets overnight.
2.Have a couple water bottles for drinking. And a 5 gallon jug or 2 to refill your water bottles.
4. Shower before it gets too dark and cold outside.
5. Turn the water off at the meter outside.
6.Close the outlet valves to your water heater so water can remain in the water heater and the pilot can remain on.
7. Run the faucets until all the water comes out.
8. Close all the faucets.
9. Then in the morning wait until the temperature gets above 35° and turn the water on maybe about 1/4 of the way. Allow the water to slowly come back into the pipes for about 15-30 mins. Then you can open it completely.

Keep in mind this is not a sure fire solution, but it's a lot better than those foam insulations! There other factors that go into pipes busting.

Always remember to back butter your tiles and trowel in the proper direction to get maximum coverage. And then check your level to keep them even across. This helps set your work apart from the rest!

Make sure to properly shore headers and beams before working on them.
