Color can do more than brighten a space. When used with intention, it can create identity, add rhythm, and help shape how people move through an environment.

In learning and research settings, bold moments of color can make shared spaces feel more inviting, signal areas of activity, and bring a sense of energy to the everyday experience. Paired with clean lines and open circulation, these details help create spaces that feel engaging, memorable, and easy to navigate.

At Thiel Design Group, color is used with purpose to create environments that support connection, learning, and discovery.

Happy birthday Kara!

Kara keeps birthdays simple and low-key, usually centered around good company, a little time to unwind, and of course, hockey. Watching a game with friends or spending the day doing something she enjoys is much more her style than a big production.

Some of her favorite birthday memories include nights spent with friends during hockey season, and one standout gift that still sticks with her is a trip to Iceland. These days, you can also count on a Lego set or two, a quiet day to recharge, and a cookie in place of a traditional cake.

Her ideal birthday? Sleeping in, building Legos, and settling in to watch hockey. No big production, just a day that feels like her.

Happy Birthday, Kara! We hope it’s a great day filled with the things you enjoy most.

First impressions start forming the moment someone walks through the door. In healthcare environments, those early moments matter, and design plays an important role in creating a sense of clarity, comfort, and confidence.

Details like an open plan, a thoughtful finish palette, and clear distinctions between patient and staff areas help shape an experience that feels welcoming and easy to understand. When wayfinding is supported through architecture and the space reflects the client’s identity, the environment begins to communicate care right away.

At Thiel Design Group, first impressions are designed with purpose, creating spaces that support both the patient experience and the people who care for them.

It's not a project, it's a purpose.

THIEL completed the 3,500 SF renovation of UTMB Health’s second-floor clinic, building on the success of the adjacent first-floor space with a design tailored to this smaller but equally important environment. With six exam rooms and a procedure room organized around a central nurse station, the layout improved visibility, workflow, and staff control.

As a partial renovation, this project required our team to carefully evaluate existing partitions and infrastructure, retaining what worked while reimagining the space as a cohesive whole. By joining two existing areas and extending the owner’s vision from floor to floor, we created a thoughtful solution that supported efficient care and long-term functionality.

We’re proud to have helped shape a space that strengthens continuity, supports care teams, and reflects the value of long-term client partnerships.

The right light can transform a space, influencing everything from mood to focus throughout the day. Where light enters, how it is controlled, and what it reaches can shape whether that space feels calm and focused or bright in all the wrong ways.

Carefully placed openings, shading, and work surfaces help people stay comfortable and productive without battling glare or fatigue. A well-placed window in a waiting area, study space, or staff room can shift how the room feels throughout the day.

At Thiel Design Group, daylight is designed to bring buildings to life, creating environments that support comfort and connection.

Wayfinding is about so much more than signs on the wall. It begins with clear destinations, intuitive paths, and consistent visual cues that support how people move through a building.

When thoughtfully integrated, wayfinding helps patients feel at ease, keeps students focused on learning, and allows staff to stay engaged in their work. The space itself becomes a guide, creating a seamless and intuitive experience at every step.

At Thiel Design Group, wayfinding is considered an essential design detail because it enhances how people experience and connect with a space, bringing purpose and clarity to every environment.

It’s Jackie’s birthday!

Jackie’s perfect birthday is all about keeping it meaningful. Time with family, close friends, and a good dinner together is her kind of celebration, and a small gathering is always the right fit.

Some of her favorite birthday memories include a special trip to Vegas for her 40th birthday, planned by her husband and shared with a few close friends. It is the kind of celebration that still makes her smile when she looks back at the photos. She also has a soft spot for Asian cakes, especially the ones that are beautifully decorated and not too sweet.

If she could plan her dream birthday, it would mean heading back to Japan to explore more places and enjoy more great food. Thoughtful, memorable, and centered around the people who matter most feels very Jackie.

Happy Birthday, Jackie! We hope your day is filled with good food, great company, and plenty of reasons to smile!

We are pleased to welcome Lillian “Lilly” Bassett to Thiel Design Group as an emerging architectural designer.

With experience on both residential and commercial projects, Lilly brings a thoughtful design perspective shaped by collaboration with designers, clients, and construction teams. She understands that good design is not only about vision, but about how that vision is carried through with clarity, care, and technical precision. That mindset aligns with the way we work at THIEL and helps support our clients through spaces that are intentional, functional, and grounded in the details that matter.

From spatial planning and material selection to construction documentation and on-site experience, Lilly brings a strong foundation and an appreciation for how ideas move from concept to reality. We are glad to have her on the team and excited for the perspective she will bring to projects.

It's not a project, it's a purpose.

THIEL led the renovation of the 5,000 SF UTMB Health Urgent Care & Ortho Clinic in Webster, designed to serve as a flexible care environment with the ability to convert to after-hours urgent care. The layout includes seven exam rooms, a procedure room, an X-ray room, and a central nurses’ station that provides clear visibility and an open, efficient workflow for staff.

Located directly at the building’s main entrance, the clinic was designed to create a strong first impression while guiding patients through the space with intuitive architectural wayfinding. Working alongside the UTMB interiors team and branding consultant, our team refined the finish palette and patient experience to align with new institutional standards.

We’re proud to help create environments that support efficient care, clear navigation, and a welcoming experience for every patient who walks through the door.
