Meet Mauricio!
A senior studying Construction Management at the University of Houston, Mauricio is spending his summer with our team, learning the ropes of jobsite management.
Throughout the summer, he's managed day-to-day jobsite responsibilities with increasing independence - checking in crews, tracking work progress, documenting project milestones, and serving as a go-to resource for questions on site.
Mauricio came to his internship with hands-on technical experience, having worked previously in masonry. At J&S, he's been able to put that experience to use while also picking up new skills, from learning project management systems like Procore to understanding how to communicate and collaborate with a team.
"I've gotten to meet so many different people and learn how to communicate and navigate different personalities. It's helped me grow a lot as a professional."
A big part of that growth has come from the people he's worked alongside this summer.
"The people here are so welcoming. They made me feel comfortable right away, which made it so much easier to learn."
That assurance allowed him to hone his skills in ways he hadn't before.
"I got to use the impact drill and work with materials I hadn't touched before, drilling into carpet and concrete. I've always liked working with my hands and staying busy, so that was a lot of fun."
The experience has done more than build his skills. It's solidified where he wants to go next.
"This internship has really solidified my goal of becoming a superintendent."
We're grateful for the skills Mauricio has learned this summer and the ones he’s naturally brought to the team. We’re excited to see him keep up the good work.
