Identity Architects The team at Identity Architects was conceived by uniting decades of experience with the ambitions of a new generation.

Rooted in 20+ years of expertise, Houston-based Identity Architecture designs spaces that elevate success—through master planning, architecture, interior design, and design-build services, we create environments with purpose and impact. The result was a union of advanced thinking and problem solving. Whether client needs are centered on new
construction or renovation, we offer an unparalleled range of services. Our diverse staff of Architects, Interior Designers and Planners provide a talented pool with the capabilities to bring each project from conception to fruition while maintaining a realistic focus on the constraints of today’s economy. David Kastendieck, a principal of the firm, graduated from the University of Houston and formed Kastendieck Associates, Inc. With a dedicated focus on the medical, retail and corporate arenas, David quickly gained recognition in Houston for his unique ability to restate client’s needs into functional and economical solutions. Keenon Rayner, a principal of the firm, graduated from Texas Tech University with a Masters of Architecture and joined David in 1997. His aptitude for design, operations, everyday business solutions along with his ability to analyze market trends and development opportunities, quickly became a vital asset to both the firm and the client. His contributions expanded the existing portfolio and company direction. In 2003, David and Keenon formed their partnership, creating Identity Architects (IdA); firm dedicated to the positive process and results of high quality Architectural service.

"Surprises” in construction usually leave clues. The question is whether your team knows where to look.

Experience changes the way you approach a project. You start asking different questions, involving people earlier, and recognizing decisions that could become problems several steps down the road.

That doesn’t mean every project goes exactly as planned. It means you’ve built a team and a process designed to see more coming. A team built on relationships.

Anticipation isn’t about predicting everything. It’s about being prepared enough to respond to almost anything.

Projects rarely get complicated because someone planned for a surprise.

They get complicated in the gaps between teams, expectations, and information.

That’s why we believe one of the most important parts of architecture happens before a drawing ever reaches construction: building relationships with the people responsible for bringing the project to life.

When architects, engineers, consultants and contractors understand how each other works, communication gets clearer, expectations get stronger and problems are easier to solve before they become expensive ones.

The relationship isn't separate from the process. It’s part of what makes the process work.

CARE.CREATE.COMMUNICATE.

Designing for Long Term performance starts early, with how people will use the space, how it can adapt over time, and HOW DESIGN CAN CONTINUE SUPPORTING THE OWNER'S INVESTMENT well beyond opening day.

The best design decisions aren't made just for today. They're made with an understanding of what a place will need to become.

Buildings change. Businesses evolve. Communities grow.

The spaces we design have to be ready to evolve with them.

Designing places that look good and function long after we leave.

For commercial developers, long-term project success is defined by how quickly and fluidly a property can be leased without breaking the bank.

In this discussion of the Woodsons Reserve project, our team explores how we carved out a highly functional, fully leased retail and coffee shop development from a larger master-planned community.

By selecting tried-and-true, durable materials like corrugated aluminum and faux woods, we designed a space that stands the test of time, fits the surrounding natural context, and serves both the developer’s budget and the community’s daily needs.

Thomas De Froy and Bryan Cater sit down to discuss the design of Hive Academy in Spring, Texas, a recently completed school for family-owned business owners Steven and Julie Eilers.

For their very first new construction project, success started with a schematic design phase built entirely on listening to what was lacking in their current operation.

By translating those early conversations into a successful interior layout, our team helped bring the client’s vision to life in a way that serves both the business owners and the families who experience the space every day.

Step inside the newly completed Hive Academy as we catch up with owner Julie Eilers to see how the space is performing now that they have fully moved in.

From separate entrances and exits that streamline drop-off traffic flow to phenomenally sized classrooms tailored to specific age groups, the physical layout was designed around daily school operations.

We also highlight the subtle, playful details that set the school apart—like the custom lit-up hexagon ceiling features and matching flooring that bring their "Bumblebee School" identity to life.

Four Identity projects. One two-mile stretch of the Grand Parkway.

A multi-use sports-and-gathering space, a preschool, and two retail centers, all within a couple miles of each other along 99.

When you work an area long enough, you learn its ins and outs: how to move fast, ways the corridor is growing, what a site can actually become. Every project here makes the next one better.

Some of our clients have run a hundred projects. Some are running their first. Either way, we tell them the same thing: we're not just your architect. We can build this for you.

That changes the conversation. Because when the same people drawing it are the ones building it, "the architect did something he shouldn't have" doesn't result in a change order. There's nobody to point at. It's not a fragmented team — we're there for the whole show.

There's always a gap between a set of plans and the vision the client actually described. Architect-led design build is how we close it. We hire the general contractor ourselves — usually a partner we've worked with for years — and we involve them day one, not six months in when the drawings land on their desk. We build the plans with their expertise already in the room. The client gets a guaranteed price upfront, and the design doesn't get value-engineered into something unrecognizable.

The architect leads the process. That's the difference.

You might not recognize the corner of Milam and Commerce in 30 days. Construction is moving fast at the Abraham Watkins Law Offices in downtown Houston. Framing and sheathing are up, and the brick facade is next. As the windows go in and the brick starts climbing, you'll really see it connect to the existing building. The next month is going to be a big one.

Give us a follow for future updates on progress, or visit IdentityArchitects.com/Abraham-Watkins to learn more about the project.
