Our diverse staff of Architects, Interior Designers and Planners provide a talented pool with the capabilities to bring each project from conception to fruition while maintaining a realistic focus on the constraints of today’s economy. David Kastendieck, a principal of the firm, graduated from the University of Houston and formed Kastendieck Associates, Inc. With a dedicated focus on the medical, retail and corporate arenas, David quickly gained recognition in Houston for his unique ability to restate client’s needs into functional and economical solutions. Keenon Rayner, a principal of the firm, graduated from Texas Tech University with a Masters of Architecture and joined David in 1997. His aptitude for design, operations, everyday business solutions along with his ability to analyze market trends and development opportunities, quickly became a vital asset to both the firm and the client. His contributions expanded the existing portfolio and company direction. In 2003, David and Keenon formed their partnership, creating Identity Architects (IdA); firm dedicated to the positive process and results of high quality Architectural service.

Some of our clients have run a hundred projects. Some are running their first. Either way, we tell them the same thing: we're not just your architect. We can build this for you.

There's always a gap between a set of plans and the vision the client actually described. Architect-led design build is how we close it. We hire the general contractor ourselves — usually a partner we've worked with for years — and we involve them day one, not six months in when the drawings land on their desk. We build the plans with their expertise already in the room. The client gets a guaranteed price upfront, and the design doesn't get value-engineered into something unrecognizable.

The architect leads the process. That's the difference.

You might not recognize the corner of Milam and Commerce in 30 days. Construction is moving fast at the Abraham Watkins Law Offices in downtown Houston. Framing and sheathing are up, and the brick facade is next. As the windows go in and the brick starts climbing, you'll really see it connect to the existing building. The next month is going to be a big one.

At Abraham Watkins Law Firm, in the Main Street Market Square Historic District in Downtown Houston, the story didn't stop at the façade. Original mahogany doors, historic proportions, and century-old craftsmanship informed every interior renovation decision. New materials and refined details were introduced with restraint, allowing the building's character to lead while supporting the needs of today.

Designing for the people who spend all day there.

In traditional clinic layouts, nurses and medical staff are often relegated to the dark, interior core of the building. For the UT Physicians Pediatric Multispecialty Clinic, we flipped the script. We moved almost all of the nurses' stations to the perimeter glass, flooding their workspaces with natural light all day long.

We also moved providers out of isolated private offices and into open workspaces immediately adjacent to the nurses to foster communication and teamwork.
