Monday, we shared what’s taking shape above. Now, we’re taking you underneath it.

Building into a sloped Houston site has given us the opportunity to create something unusual for our typically flat landscape. The elevated pool and main-level entertaining spaces are supported by an extensive structure below, including a cantilevered concrete fire pit we’ve nicknamed “The Nest.”

When complete, the structure itself will largely disappear from view. What remains will be the experience: sitting by the fire, watching water overflow from the pool above, and looking out toward the bayou.

It takes an incredible amount of coordination between the architect, builder, trades, and client to make a space like this possible, and it’s one of the reasons this project means so much to us.

From timeless and traditional to clean and contemporary, the possibilities begin with how you want to live.

At CDG, each kitchen takes shape through collaboration, bringing the client’s vision together with our architecture and interior design expertise to create a space that feels distinctly their own.

Bringing an outdoor living space up to the home’s main entertaining level changes the way the entire backyard functions.

At this project, the pool, spa, fire pit, patio, and outdoor kitchen are all being developed as an extension of the main living spaces, creating a more seamless connection between indoors and out.

There is also a lot happening beneath the surface to make that elevation possible. We’ll be sharing more on that next.

Not every finish needs to be the star, and knowing where to invest is part of what makes a home feel truly resolved.

For this week’s Studio Chat, Olivia shares how she helps clients determine where the budget will have the greatest impact, balancing beauty, durability, and how each space will actually be used. With an extensive materials library and trusted vendor network at their fingertips, those decisions become a highly collaborative part of the design process.

Where would you invest first?

A powder bath is one of the few spaces in a home where you can push the design a little further.

Here, silky plaster walls set a quiet backdrop for dramatically veined Monet marble, a sculptural vanity profile, and lighting that reads almost like jewelry. The result is rich, polished, and just unexpected enough to make a lasting impression.

A well-proportioned home is something you often feel before you can explain why.

For Mark, getting that feeling right begins long before finishes or furnishings enter the conversation. It comes from understanding how a client lives, entertains, and moves through the home, then allowing those priorities to shape the architecture from the start.

This week’s Studio Chat explores why proportion is about much more than dimensions alone.

What makes a home feel “right” to you?

There’s a big difference between adding a golf simulator to a home and designing a true golf experience into it.

For Mark, that means understanding the technology well enough to know what is possible before the room ever takes shape. The Full Swing Virtual Green is a great example of how recreation, performance, and custom home design can come together in one highly specialized space.

Thank you to Craig Nome of Full Swing for sharing a closer look at what this system can do.

The most successful custom homes don’t just add amenities. They create experiences.

As homeowners continue looking for new ways to bring recreation and entertainment home, dedicated spaces like this are becoming part of the conversation from the earliest stages of design.

Thank you to Craig Nome of Full Swing for sharing more about what is possible when technology, recreation, and residential design come together.

More to come later this week.
