This weekend, KDW was proud to support the AIA Houston Chapter Scavenger Hunt as part of the Houston Public Library’s Julia Ideson Building Centennial celebration.

Organized by AIA Houston’s Kids in Architecture and Historic Resources Committees, the family-friendly scavenger hunt encouraged participants to take a closer look at the architectural details and artistry throughout the 100-year-old building.

KDW sponsored prizes for the event, and our own Eulice Umanzor, AIA, who serves as Chair of AIA Houston’s Historic Resources Committee, joined fellow architecture and design professionals in bringing the experience to life.

KDW is proud to announce the start of construction on a new clinic for Warthan Dermatology in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Access to specialty care close to home matters for East Texas communities. This new facility is built with that in mind: 7,167 square feet with 15 exam rooms, a lab, ample office space, on a 2.54-acre site, designed to serve patients efficiently from day one.

This project is the result of a relationship cultivated over time, and we're grateful for the trust the Warthan team has placed in KDW to deliver their vision through our design-build approach.

Meet Garrett Williamson, Project Manager at KDW's Nacogdoches office, and someone who has earned every step of that title.

Garrett joined KDW in 2017 out of our Houston office as an Assistant Superintendent. From there, he moved up to Superintendent before making the transition to Project Manager. That full progression through the field isn't just resume filler. It's the reason he can walk onto any job and understand what's actually happening on the ground, not just on paper.

The field was familiar territory long before KDW. Growing up with a dad in commercial construction, tagging along to job sites was just part of life. When he got to the University of Houston, construction management wasn't his original plan, but it didn't take long to realize it was the right fit. The rest followed naturally from there.

What's kept him here for nearly a decade? He'll tell you it comes down to the people and the work itself. He's had the chance to learn from seasoned superintendents, lean on strong PMs, and draw something different from each of them along the way. And when things get hard, because they do, his approach is straightforward: ask questions, use common sense, and keep moving.

Now Garrett is putting all of that to work in Nacogdoches, bringing nearly a decade of field-earned experience to every project he manages in East Texas.

Camp season comes around every year, and the spaces that support it have to be ready.

For years, KDW has partnered with camps across Texas to build the cabins, dining halls, gathering spaces, recreation facilities, and infrastructure that keep camp running summer after summer.

From Pine Cove and Camp Strake to Camp Cho-Yeh and T Bar M, each project is different, but the goal is the same: build spaces that support the experiences campers will remember long after summer ends.

Progress update from Nacogdoches: the new Hyundai dealership is taking shape. 🏗️

Structural steel er****on is wrapping up, with decking following right behind. With the frame going vertical, the 20,760 SF facility is starting to look like the showroom, full-service shop, car wash, and EV charging hub it will become.

Our East Texas team is keeping the project on schedule as it moves from sitework to structure.

August gives us plenty to celebrate at KDW!

We're wishing a happy birthday to our team members celebrating this month and recognizing those marking another year with KDW. From 1 year to 21 years of service, we're grateful for the people, experience, and dedication behind everything we build.

Data centers are being built across Texas faster than the equipment supply chain can keep up. Giga Energy is one of the companies working to close that gap.

Giga manufactures and distributes electrical transformers and data center equipment, helping data centers monetize flexibility and reduce energy costs. To support that growing demand, they needed more capable manufacturing and distribution space, and they found it in a facility that already existed.

Work is in the final stretch at Giga's 63,000 SF facility in North Houston, where KDW is completing improvements and modifications inside and outside the building. Transformer tanks are staged on the production slab and equipment is moving into place as the facility gets closer to full operation.

We're excited to welcome Max Mumaw to the East Texas team! Max joins as an Assistant Project Manager and brings a fresh perspective from Stephen F. Austin State University, where he earned his degree in Construction Management.

Progress is being made at Sika's new roofing production facility in Sealy. The steel is welded out, and the exterior is taking shape fast: metal panels are going up on the 77' tower, PEMB lean-to’s are underway, and roofing kicks off next week.

Inside, crews are running sprinkler pipe and electrical conduit, and the office floor was just finished with QuartzTop dryshake, one of Sika's own products.

Once complete, the plant will produce Sika's full line of Sarnafil® and Sikaplan® thermoplastic roof membranes, expanding their reach across the western and southern U.S.
