That last condenser screw going back in means we’re getting close — but in Houston, the real test is how that system performs under load. 🔩🥵
Before we wrap up a service call, there are a few things I like to verify: refrigerant charge based on the manufacturer’s specifications, compressor and condenser fan amp draws, electrical connections, temperature split, airflow, and a complete system cycle.
Houston heat will expose a weak AC system pretty quickly. A unit can look fine at 9 AM when the outdoor temperature is manageable, then start struggling once we get into the hottest part of the afternoon.
That’s why I don’t like diagnosing a system based on one number. Pressures might look decent, but what’s the subcooling or superheat doing? What’s the amp draw compared to the nameplate? Is the condenser actually rejecting heat properly? Is airflow where it needs to be?
The last screw is just the last step. The readings are what tell you whether the job is actually finished.
