What do you think an outdoor space like this cost?

This is a vaulted roof that had to be engineered and framed. This project needed full masonry for the fireplace and chimney. Electrical had to be completed with recessed lighting, skylights, a fan, and the wiring to run all of it.

There's framers, masons, electricians, roofers, and a finish crew — coordinated, in sequence, to build one outdoor room. And that's not including the actual materials selected.

If you manage a team of 40 people at work, the last thing you need is to come home and manage a construction crew too.

Here's how to make sure that doesn't happen to you:

1️⃣"What does your planning process look like before construction starts?"

If they hesitate or get vague, walk away. A real process means your budget, design, and timeline are aligned on paper before anyone swings a hammer. No process means you're funding their guesswork.

2️⃣ "How much of my time will this actually require each week?"

A good builder gives you a straight answer. A great one has already built their process around your schedule — not the other way around.

3️⃣ "Who is my point of contact when problems come up?"
