The Floor Beneath the Finals:
Covington Role in the Spurs' Training Home

SAN ANTONIO, TX — As the San Antonio Spurs prepare to face the New York Knicks in the 2026 NBA Finals, Covington and manufacturing partner Robbins Sports Surfaces are proud to reflect on the installation of the Robbins MVP (Maximum Vibration Protection) maple floor system at the Spurs' San Antonio training facility, completed just over two years ago. The MVP system is engineered to reduce floor vibration and minimize fatigue for the athletes who train on it daily — one of many elements supporting the elite training environment the Spurs have built.

And speaking of MVP, Victor Wembanyama was named Western Conference Finals MVP after averaging 27.3 points and 10.9 rebounds against OKC leading San Antonio to their first Finals since 2014.

The Covington and Robbins teams take great pride in knowing their work is part of the foundation beneath him and the team.

Congratulations to the entire Spurs organization.

When we meet with prospective clients, the first question is almost always, “What’s the upfront cost?”

The reality is, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer—pricing depends on several key variables that must be evaluated before an accurate number can be provided.

But focusing only on initial cost misses the bigger picture.

What truly matters is the projected cost of the floor over the life of the building. This is where Life Cycle Cost (LCC)—also known as Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)—comes into play. This approach looks beyond the purchase price and gives owners a clear, comprehensive view of their total investment over time, including maintenance, performance, and long-term value.

***** YOU ASK - WE ANSWER #15 *****
#15 "You Ask We Answer" | Glass Court Floors? What Could Possible Go Wrong?

Are glass basketball floors the future—or a potential risk waiting to happen?

In this video, we take a hard look at the growing conversation around glass sports floors and how they compare to the proven performance of traditional hardwood courts. From player safety and traction to long-term durability, we break down what really matters when athletes step on the floor.

But this isn’t a one-sided argument.

We also address an important reality: not every facility is built for hardwood. In coastal regions, flood-prone environments, and multi-purpose facilities like churches, elementary schools, and auxiliary gyms, modern polyurethane pad-and-pour systems have become a smart, strategic alternative. These seamless synthetic floors now offer impressive slip resistance, shock absorption, and—most importantly—moisture resistance that wood simply can’t match.

So what’s the right choice?

It depends on how your facility is used, where it’s located, and what demands it faces over time.

Whether you’re building a championship-level arena or a high-traffic multi-use space, making the right flooring decision matters.

At Covington, we help you get it right the first time.

Round Rock Sports Center Expansion | Projects in Action

The City of Round Rock continues to invest in facilities that drive community impact and sports tourism—and the expansion of the Round Rock Sports Center is a prime example.

Since opening in 2014, the Sports Center has hosted local, regional, and national events that have generated more than $210 million in economic activity for the City of Round Rock. To meet growing demand, the City completed a $17.5 million expansion, adding 25,000 square feet of new space designed for flexibility, efficiency, and high-volume use.

Covington was trusted once again to design and install the sports flooring systems for this expansion—building on a partnership that began with the original facility installation in 2013. Working alongside Marmon Mok, the Covington team helped specify
Robbins BioChannel SB maple flooring for the new basketball courts—engineered to perform under heavy live loads and future bleacher installations—along with Sportwood Ultra Star for the adjacent dance and meeting space.

With construction management by John King Construction, Ltd., the expanded Sports Center can now host multiple large-scale events simultaneously—supporting volleyball tournaments, basketball competitions, cheer events, and more.

This project is a clear reflection of what happens when cities partner with experienced specialists who understand performance, longevity, and lifecycle value.

East Tennessee has always known how to advertise big—from the famous “See Rock City” barn signs to bold branding that can’t be missed.

This new video takes you inside Rocky Top Sports World in Gatlinburg, where Covington recently transformed six basketball courts we originally installed more than 10 years ago.

Using GameTime’s photo-realistic vinyl graphics, the entire facility was rebranded quickly and efficiently—without weeks of shutdown time. The graphics were applied and sealed directly into the hardwood floor, creating a vibrant new look built to handle nonstop tournament traffic.

It’s a great example of how the right flooring and graphics strategy can completely reinvent a gym.

Projects in Action for Nov 26, 2025
The new Johnson City Middle School gymnasium in Johnson City, Texas, is more than a beautiful new facility — it’s a smart, long-term investment in student safety and athletic performance. Funded by Johnson City ISD, managed by Gallagher Construction Management, and designed by WRA Architects, this project reflects a district committed to building for the future.
At the heart of the space is the Robbins BioChannel SB — an engineered anchored-resilient maple sports floor installed by Covington. This system is purpose-built for consistency, impact protection, and biomechanical safety. For growing middle-school athletes, that matters. Reduced fatigue, controlled deflection, and reliable ball response help protect joints, growth plates, and long-term physical development. Teachers and coaches benefit too with less lower-body fatigue during full days on the surface.
From design vision to final installation, Gallagher CM, WRA Architects, and Covington delivered a performance-ready surface built to last. If your district or design team is planning a new gym, renovation, or floor replacement, Covington provides no-obligation budget planning and system evaluations to help you make the right decision from day one.
Covington — the most trusted name in sport and recreational surfaces. Serving the South since 1982.
