A quality gym floor is a major investment—and protecting that investment takes more than just sweeping it once in a while.

In this episode of You Ask, We Answer, we look at six practical ways to help protect your maple gym floor, extend its useful life, and keep it looking and performing the way it should.

From routine dust mopping and cleaning spills quickly, to removing heel marks, controlling the gym environment, maintaining the finish, and knowing when professional attention is needed, a little preventive maintenance can make a tremendous difference over the life of the floor.

At Covington Flooring, we don’t just install athletic floors. We help customers understand how to care for them long after the installation is complete.

YOU ASK - WE ANSWER!
Episode #17: Renew or Replace?

Renew or Replace?

That’s the real question when choosing a new gym floor.

In Episode 17 of You Ask, We Answer, Tommy Ellison of Covington Flooring explains why the initial purchase price is only part of the story—and why life-cycle cost should play a major role in your flooring decision.

Learn how a Robbins Pulastic® seamless polyurethane sports floor can often be renewed with an overpour instead of completely replaced, restoring colors, logos, game lines, appearance, and performance without costly demolition.

We’ll also compare Pulastic with traditional sheet vinyl systems, including concerns such as aging seams, dirt accumulation, moisture intrusion, worn graphics, and long-term replacement costs.

If you’re planning a school gym, recreation center, church facility, or athletic complex, this episode can help you answer an important question:

Will your next floor eventually have to be replaced—or can it simply be renewed?

Have a flooring question? Leave it in the comments. It could become a future episode of You Ask, We Answer.

Welcome to Projects in Action, where we take a quick look at recent Covington Athletic and Recreational installations and the owners who have made Covington The Choice of Champions—because champions demand quality, and quality creates champions.

At Heritage Academy in Columbus, Mississippi, an aging synthetic sports floor was recently removed and replaced with a brand-new Robbins Pulastic® Classic 110 seamless system featuring the patented, WoodGrain finish.

This flooring system is designed to deliver the appearance of traditional maple hardwood coupled with the performance advantages of a synthetic surface. The Pulastic Classic 110 provides athletes with exceptional comfort, consistent ball bounce, and reliable traction.

At 11 millimeters thick, this classic pad-and-pour system has become one of Covington Flooring’s most popular surfaces, serving schools, recreation facilities, and indoor walking tracks throughout the South.

For the Heritage Academy Patriots, the new floor was designed around the school’s signature red, white, and blue branding, creating a championship-caliber environment for basketball, physical education classes, and year-round activities.

Unlike vinyl overlays or printed decals, the Wood Grain finish is integrated directly into the polyurethane surface to create the look of hardwood while maintaining the seamless durability and low maintenance of a synthetic floor.

Even everyday wear is less noticeable thanks to color-matched seamless resin that help preserve the floor’s appearance for years to come.

From practice sessions to game day, Heritage Academy now enjoys the beauty of wood with the performance benefits of Robbins Pulastic Classic 110.

Covington Flooring is proud to have partnered with Heritage Academy to deliver another championship-quality athletic surface.

What does a new gym floor cost?

The honest answer is: it depends.

Every gym is different. The size, existing floor condition, intended use, structural requirements, graphics, repairs, and chosen flooring system all affect the final price.

So here is a better question:
What does it cost to find out what your new gymnasium floor will cost?

With Covington Flooring, the answer is ZERO!

We provide a no-obligation evaluation and proposal for new construction, replacement, renovation, repairs, resurfacing, or refinishing.

Stop guessing and let us help you determine what your facility actually needs.
