📢 What is a Maintenance Control Program (MCP)?
A Maintenance Control Program (MCP) is a detailed record of the maintenance that should be performed on your elevator. It includes oil usage logs for hydraulic elevators and outlines the tasks to be completed when the elevator company performs maintenance. The MCP is a vital component of your maintenance program, as it allows building owners and management to clearly understand how their equipment is being maintained. It’s also crucial in the event of an elevator incident, serving as documentation of compliance should the situation escalate to a legal matter.
💡 In Texas, an MCP violation on an elevator inspection report typically refers to a maintenance company’s failure to have an updated MCP onsite. The MCP requirements are outlined in the ASME (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers) A17.1/CSA B44 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. It’s the building owner’s responsibility to ensure a current MCP is in the machine room for each elevator and accessible for review during inspections. MCPs may be developed by the equipment manufacturer, a maintenance provider, or a third-party consultant.
