Taking down your fall décor? Instead of tossing your decorative pumpkins and gourds in the trash, give them a second life that your trees and soil will thank you for it.🍂

Pumpkins are rich in nitrogen, potassium, and other micronutrients that improve soil structure as they decompose by feeding beneficial organisms in the soil.

Here’s what you can do:
- Compost: Chop into smaller pieces to speed up microbial decomposition.
- Bury: Place them in garden beds or under mulch
- Share: Place them near feeders for birds and squirrels.

As arborists, we see firsthand how healthy soil builds resilient trees. So instead of sending your gourds to the landfill, let them help your backyard instead.

Last week, our teams from Mainline, PA; Huntingdon Valley, PA; and Princeton, NJ came together to support St. Peter’s Episcopal Church’s food pantry in Philadelphia, donating nearly 1,500 non-perishable items just in time for Thanksgiving.

We’re especially grateful to arborist Tyler Willis for helping organize this effort, and to every team member who contributed. Their kindness reflects our mission of caring for the communities we’re a part of, not only through the landscapes we steward but through the people we serve.

Thank you to Tyler and to all our PA and NJ teams for living these values every day.

Winter is the perfect time to give your trees the care they deserve with a professionally done pruning job.

🍂 Better Visibility for your arborist: Without leaves, it's easier to assess your trees’ structure and prune for health and safety.
🌿 Beautiful Shape: Winter pruning enhances your trees’ natural form, boosting curb appeal.
🌳 Promotes Proper Growth: By pruning strategically, we guide branches to grow in the right direction, preventing interference with buildings or landscapes.
🏠 Improves Safety: Removing dead or weak branches reduces the risk of falling limbs and can help protect your family and property.
🌬️ Reduces Storm Risk: Weak, crossed, or rubbing branches are more likely to cause damage in severe weather. Pruning now means less worry later.
☀️ Healthier Trees: Pruning helps sunlight reach deeper into the canopy and encourages healthy growth in the Spring. Plus, it improves the health of surrounding plants and grass.
🍎 Boosts Fruit Production: For fruit trees, winter pruning stimulates growth and improves fruit yield by allowing better air circulation and light exposure.
🦠 Prevents Disease Spread: Pruning during the colder months helps prevent the spread of diseases when warmer weather returns.

Give your trees a healthier, stronger start for the growing season ahead! 🌱

If you’re picking a Christmas tree this year, our arborists recommend Fraser Fir (Abies fraseri).

Why? It’s the gold standard for Christmas trees for a reason.
🎄 Superior needle retention
🌿 Pleasant fragrance
💧 Excellent drought resistance

They’re also naturally resistant to some pests and root rot, making them a healthy pick from the start.

🌿 Tree tip: Look for rich green needles with a slight silver underside — a telltale sign you’re looking at a true Fraser.

🦃🍁 Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at SavATree! 🍁🦃

As we pause to reflect on gratitude this season, we’re proud to share a moment that truly captures the heart of who we are. Over the past month, our Arborist, Tyler Willis, from our Bucks County branch organized a food drive alongside our Huntingdon Valley, Bucks County, Mainline, and Princeton teams, and the results were nothing short of inspiring.

Our mission statement is, "We care for what you love by making the intersection between trees and people work." Over the past month, our team truly lived that mission through our food drive by stepping up to address food insecurity in our community. With integrity and teamwork, we turned concern into action and filled the once nearly-empty pantry at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Philadelphia, helping ensure families had food and comfort on their Thanksgiving table.

We are incredibly grateful for our team’s compassion, teamwork, and dedication to giving back to the communities we serve.

To all our clients, near and far, we wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving filled with warmth, gratitude, and time well spent with those you love. Thank you for being part of the SavATree family. 💚

Do your rhododendrons, hollies, and boxwoods look like this?

That’s because winter has been especially tough on these shrubs, especially across southern New England. Winter winds, combined with drought stress from the fall, have dried out evergreen foliage, leading to winter burn.

Symptoms include:
• Wilted, curled, or tan leaves
• Scorched or browned leaf edges
• Bronze or dead shoots on boxwoods

If you're unsure how to help your shrubs recover, SavATree’s arborists can assess the damage and create a thoughtful recovery plan. We'll determine what can be saved, provide precise pruning, and help protect your plants from secondary diseases.

🌱Soil testing is an incredibly valuable—if not essential—first step in understanding the health of your landscape. It provides a clear picture of what’s happening beneath the surface and helps identify potential issues that could be affecting the trees, plants, or lawn on your property.

By removing the guesswork, a soil test can guide thoughtful, targeted care. In some cases, the results reveal that just one adjustment—like a specific nutrient or treatment—can make a noticeable difference in the appearance and resilience of your lawn or garden.

If you're looking for a more informed approach to landscape care, a soil test offers the insight you need to support healthy, thriving growth.

April is here, and it’s the perfect time to give your garden and landscape some seasonal TLC 🌷

In the latest issue of Timely Tips, we sat down with longtime client and lifestyle expert Martha Stewart to share some top recommendations for April garden prep:
- Plant Cool-Weather Veggies – It’s the ideal time to sow peas, lettuce, and spinach (Bonnie Plants are Martha's favorite!)
- Lawn Care – Apply a slow-release organic fertilizer and reseed any bare spots
- Pest Monitoring – Inspect early and often to catch issues before they spread
- Tick Prevention – Schedule organic tick treatments now for a safer May

A healthy landscape needs a proactive approach! 🌳

Trees and plants face a combination of challenges—from pests and diseases to poor soil conditions, drought, and extreme weather. These factors can stack up over time, weakening plants and leading to decline.

With changing climate conditions bringing more unpredictable weather, now more than ever, a comprehensive, proactive approach is key to keeping landscapes healthy.

That’s why we don’t just treat symptoms—we look at the whole picture, identifying risks early and creating customized care plans to build resilience and long-term health.

As arborists, we actively support the mission of International Day for Biological Diversity every day by treating and preventing the spread of invasive species that threaten native trees, plants, and ecosystems. In fact, 42% of threatened or endangered species are at risk due to invasive fungi like the one that causes Dutch elm disease, insects like Spotted Lanternflies, and animals like mice.

Our daily mission to prevent the spread of these species includes:
🌱 Managing invasive species already impacting landscapes
🌿 Promoting native plant health to support local ecosystems
🛶 Encouraging responsible practices to prevent further spreading

Biodiversity is essential for a healthy environment. By managing these threats, we help safeguard native trees and ecosystems for future generations.
