The Depot covered bridge of Pittsford Vermont. I went down to do a conditions assessment, flew the drone over the roof the look at condition of the slate, and installed a come-along to keep the roof from sagging until we get to the repair.

My favorite part of in house rope access training. Once we’ve gone over all the different parts enough times, we go up in the lift together and I get to say: “Get out. Yes here. Get out.” 😂

For a long time I’ve been interested in adding in window and door restoration as well as architectural millwork to our offerings as a restoration contractor. As the general contractor on almost all of our projects, our clients often ask us to take on more and more of the project when they see the quality of our work. While we are very busy, I am always looking to utilize more of our talent and existing infrastructure to serve the needs of the historic built landscape around us. Here Matt is working on doing a complete restoration of these windows from the as part of our contract restoring the structure. Matt is using an infrared heater (the Speedheater 1100) to soften the layers of paint before carefully scraping them off to reveal the wood. We’ll make any repairs necessary, then prime the sashes, reinstall the glazing, and finally paint the windows before reinstalling them. It’s nice work when it’s freezing outside!

Vermont Heavy Timber is hiring! We’re looking for multiple carpenters to grow our crew and help us take on all of the work we have. We are a restoration timber framing company, although we do cut some new timber frames in the winter time. We specialize in covered bridges, churches and meeting houses, although we do work on barns and other timber framed structures. We’re looking for another lead carpenter, also a carpenter with 5+ years experience, and two carpenters who only have a couple years of experience. Pay range is between low $20’s to low $40’s, based on experience and talent. Timber framing experience is not mandatory! We can teach that side of things. We’re also looking for someone who would be interested in running the sawmill, trucking, and running our excavator for us. We provide 7 bank holidays/year, as well as 40hrs PTO for people in their first year, and PTO goes up to 80 hrs/year after the first year. We also provide disability insurance, in case a crew member gets hurt while they are not working. We have an awesome, kind, and talented crew, and we love what we do. We have a large heated shop in Huntington Vt, and most of our work is within an hour radius from there. We only take on folks who can make the commitment to stay with us for a minimum of two years, as it takes some time to train for the technical aspects of what we do. If you know of anyone who might be a good fit, please let them know! Send a resume and cover letter to [email protected]
