That “hairline crack” can look harmless—until the joints start moving.

Before you guess, we recommend a tape-and-tile drift test:
- Measure width along the crack (same spot each time)
- Place two tiles/straight edges across the crack and compare edges
- Listen/feel for movement when you lightly press near the joint
- Inspect around corners and wall-to-footing joints for staining or spalling

Poured concrete walls usually need different monitoring than block walls because freeze-thaw and moisture push stress through the full monolith differently—so the “right” follow-up depends on how your wall behaves, not just how thin the crack looks.

Before you sign for retaining walls, we stop and ask 5 spec questions—because poured concrete surprises aren’t cheap.

Ask your builder:
- What reinforcement is included (and where)?
- What fire-resistance expectations are we designing for?
- What’s the formwork plan to keep lines and pressure under control?
- What’s the excavation-to-grading schedule, step by step?
- What cure timeframe are you planning for strength before backfill?

We’d rather be boring on planning than deal with cracks later.

BREAKING NEWS: The union reps are here, and they are demanding more belly rubs. 🐾🏗️

Happy National Bring Your Dog to Work Day from Concrete Walls Inc.!

We thought it would be a great idea to bring our best friends to the job site today. It turns out, dogs and fresh concrete have a very complicated relationship.

Here is our official 1-star review from today’s guest site supervisors:

The Mud Factor: 10/10. "The wet grey mud smells terrible but feels amazing to walk directly through."

The Tail Hazard: 0/10. "Apparently, wagging your tail near a freshly smoothed wall turns it into a textured accent wall. Management was not pleased."

The Hole Situation: 5/10. "We dug an excellent trench for the foundation. Management said it was 'in the wrong place' and 'ruined the grade.' Unbelievable."

Needless to say, the pups have been demoted back to Head of Moral Support, safely behind the fence.

If your backyard needs a wall that doesn't have permanent paw prints immortalized in it, you know who to call. (We promise to leave our assistants at home).
